Italian silks back for Roma Cup

The Gangemi stable will have three runners in the Group 3 PKF–Roma Cup when racing heads back to Belmont Park Racecourse on Saturday.

A race that the stable targets every year, the Gangemi stable were successful in winning the race back in 2017 and 2018 with Rock Magic who was ridden by Jarrad Noske.

Noske has not ridden in a race since December last year, but he is back on Saturday and will partner Samizdat as he makes his Western Australia return.

The six-year-old gelding by Not A Single Doubt was a winner first-up last preparation when steered by Clint Johnston-Porter to victory in the Listed Newmarket before heading to Victoria.

Johnston-Porter will partner Massimo for the seventeenth time in his thirty-start career as they look to combine for more Group victories.

The pair won the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes last November and Massimo returned impressively finishing fourth in the Group 3 Northam Stakes on May 1.

The third runner for the stable will be Notorious One. The six-year-old has unlimited ability and finished fourth in the Group 1 Heineken 3-Railway Stakes last year when ridden by Shaun O’Donnell.

He has won five from seven at Belmont Park Racecourse and will be hopeful of another big return first-up.
