Stageman has won each of his last two races, both at Belmont Park

Punting Form race reports: Saturday 31 August

Stageman has won six of his 13 starts, including each of his last two races, and the Adam Durrant-trained sprinter looks like the galloper to beat in Go Father's Eve Racing For Free With Old Mates Handicap at Belmont Park on Saturday.

If the Go Father's Eve Racing For Free With Old Mates Handicap field does not lose Veuve De Vega then the event is likely to be run at a fast tempo because the Sean Casey-prepared gelding knows only one way to race and he will carry only 52.5 kilograms after Bonnie Palise's claim. A high-rating 1,000 metres contest is right up Stageman's alley and he overcame an unsuitable early speed to defeat in-form gelding Free Trade on his most recent appearance - his late sectional times were very good, according to Punting Form. That race was seven weeks ago but Stageman has won off a freshening period previously so he ticks that box.
