Danny Miller aboard Northerly, Swan Draught - Railway Stakes Winner 2000

Drummond Golf Northerly Stakes

After consultation with the racing industry and Perth Racing members, Perth Racing and Racing and Wagering WA are proud to announce the renaming of the Kingston Town Classic to the Northerly Stakes.
As The Pinnacles (supported by TABtouch) will be a West Australian themed race series, the initial recommendation was to change the race name to Eurythmic Stakes.
Eurythmic was the first WA horse to be inducted into the Australian Hall of Fame, however, the feedback was overwhelmingly enthusiastic about celebrating Northerly, a more recent WA champion.
Many of us in racing have strong memories of watching Northerly win at Ascot Racecourse and Belmont Park, as well as at the highest level nationally. He won back-to-back WS Cox Plates in 2001 and 2002 and retired with career prize money of almost $9.5 million.
Northerly already has a Group 3 race named after him, which will now take on the well-deserved name of Eurythmic. The 3yo and up Eurythmic Stakes traditionally run in May will also take on a new name, to be announced at a later date.
The Group 1 $1.5 million Drummond Golf-Northerly Stakes will run on Day 4 of The Pinnacles (supported by TABtouch), Saturday 3 December 2022 at Ascot Racecourse.
