Rock Magic wins the Roma Cup at Ascot Racecourse Saturday 19 May 2018

Albukhturi to debut in the west

Three-year-old gelding Albukhturi will make his debut in the west at Ascot Racecourse tomorrow for the Chris and Michael Gangemi stable.

The former Victorian only had five starts over east which produced a victory and two-minor placings, but expectations had always been higher.

As a two-year-old, the gelding by Iffraaj competed in the Group 2 VRC Sires where he was only beaten 3.55 lengths at Flemington.

Albukhturi trialed well last month at Belmont Park and Brad Parnham who rode him in the trial will sit in the saddle tomorrow carrying 61kg from barrier 5.

The Gangemi stable have had regular success buying gallopers from over east and bringing them into a new environment where they have thrived.

A prime example is Rock Magic who has earned $1,682,415 in prize money and will take his place this Saturday in the Group 3 Roma Cup (1200m).
