Miss Ponderosa finishes second to Scuffy at Belmont Park on September 16.

Key runners: Belmont Park – Wednesday 27 September

Expected weather: Shower or two. 17 degrees Celsius

Expected track rating: Soft 5

Rail position: Out 18m

Race 1 – 1.13pm: David Gray’s AGlink Hcp (1200m) - Bet with TABtouch

1 ROCKON TOMMY was inclined to lay in, but still proved too good over the 1100m at Northam on September 14. Drawn favourably in barrier three.

2 YOUNG THOR stuck on well on debut over the 1200m at Belmont when second back in June. Has trialled since (11/9), and lengthened nicely when second over the 950m at Lark Hill.

3 MARCHIGIANO was never a factor last start after racing keenly through the early and middle stages. Blinkers come off here, but looks tested nonetheless.

4 MUMSTHEONE showed plenty of promise in weaving through late last time around at Northam. This is harder though and place claims appear best.

5 THREE SECRETS debuts here after two recent trials. Drawn the paint, but keen to see race competitively before investing.

6 MISTY METAL jumped slowly last start over the 1000m at Belmont (16/9). Didn’t see clean air for the majority of the home straight but really picked up late to finish two-lengths fifth, from winner Dynamite Dream. Two solid trials runs back in August came on soft ground.

7 SALLY’S REALM on debut. Only public trial this time in was back on July 17th over the 950m at Lark Hill. Extended nicely however in winning that trial on a soft 5 surface. William Pike rides.

8 SHELLYLOUSAN showed a nice turn of foot in a recent trial win, but is only at career start number two here, and expect she’ll find some of these a touch too zippy.

Selections: 6-1-7-2

Race 2 – 1.49pm: Western Racepix Hcp (2200m) - Bet with TABtouch

1 COSTA OESTE led all the way to break maiden over 1650m at Belmont (13/9). Three starts prior produced a game second on a Heavy 8. Up in trip significantly here, but has only missed a place once in his last eight outings.

2 MUSICAL ART was suited by a strong tempo last start when second to Buster’s Shadow at Northam over 2200m (13/9). Start prior ran home equally as strong when second over the Belmont 2000m. Primed to score now, and in smallish field, look for another big run late.

3 DETROIT DIESEL produced only an even run when 10th of 14 behind Golgotha last start. Ran top 7 in a Victoria Derby two years ago behind Tarzino, so trip shouldn’t be an issue. Just not sure if going well enough to jump from 1650m to 2200m and win here.

4 ONE WORD REVIEW never threatened when eighth lengths off Buster’s Shadow at Northam. Draws better here in two, but would surprise if was able to salute.

5 SHADOWBOXER just five starts for this 4yo, and last two have been below average. Don’t expect will be in the numbers here.

6 CARAZORO broke her maiden in fine style last start when dashed down the outside over 2200m at Northam. Probably needs to lift again, but one to consider for the multiples.

7 MYTHICAL SAGA sat on speed in aforementioned 2200m at Northam (13/9) and really stuck on well to finish sixth. At peak fitness and with a touch of luck from gate seven, is right in the mix here.

8 THE TEMPTRESS another to come out of Northam 2200m, and like top selection here, sat off speed and finished off well. Drawn the rail, but soft form a slight concern.

Selections: 2-1-7-8

Race 3 – 2.24pm: TABtouch Maiden (1300m) - Bet with TABtouch

1 BOKERUP LAD finished a long way off Vega Dior last start over 1200m at Pinjarra. A 24 start maiden and expect that’ll become 25.

2 CLEVER DICK scratched.

3 MASSA MAC is first-up here off the back of one trial. Was a neat performance, but being unplaced from three previous first-up efforts, suggests he might need the run here.

4 HAYAN LAD was just okay in the run to the line when ninth of 15 behind Scuffy. Is in the mix if can find best form. Gate eight makes things a little tricky.

5 RIVER JUSTICE is another first-up runner here. Comes in off two trials, but draws wide in 13 with the scratching, and expect will find a few of these a touch too good.

6 MISS PONDEROSA missed the kick then pushed forward to sit on speed three-wide no cover, last start at Belmont over 1200m. Fought on gamely in the straight to finish half-a-length second behind Scuffy. Drawn better here in three and has fitness edge on many rivals here.

7 FEISTY FELIX positioned well after jumping but never fired a shot in the straight when 10th behind A Fair Lady. Not the worst here, but has drawn the carpark.

8 ROGUE EMPRESS attacked the line with plenty of gusto at start number three back in March. One trial coming into this first-up run didn’t give much away. Not in the numbers, but eager to see how she goes.

9 MAKTASH is another debutant. Two trials on good and soft going were both sound, but gate 11 makes for a tougher task.

10 SISTAKINI first time we see this girl as well. Debuts off just the one trial, and from a respected stable, anticipate she’ll put in a bright showing here today.

11 SCINTILLATING ran home with plenty of vigour and then was held-up over the last 50m, when fifth to Athlete last start at Belmont (16/9). Will need luck from barrier 12 but has talent.

12 ACTION debuts here. Asked to quicken late over 1000m trial at Belmont (18/9) and did so nicely. Drawn well in four and Pike rides.

13 NARARA debuts here as well. Has trialled three times coming into this, but unfortunately lost the rider at most recent trial.

14 ZALINSKI also debuts here and like Action, is a youngster from the Grant and Alana Williams stable. Comes in off two trials, and note – Chris Parnham jumps off Scintillating to ride here.

15 DESIGNER PRINCE hard to make a case for this 3yo gelding following two average trials. The most recent one beaten more than 12 lengths.

16 GUNPOINT looked a more educated unit when trialling two weeks ago, after racing greenly on debut back in February. First-up, from a wide draw. Prefer others.

Selections: 6-11-12-14

Race 4 – 2.59pm: Perth Racing Twitter Hcp (1700m) - Bet with TABtouch

1 SILVER PLATED enjoys a significant drop in grade here from the 72 to the 56. Was never a factor last start when eighth behind Ragnar’s Saga. Expect he’ll be slow to ping the lids as has been the pattern of late, but if can reproduce his fourth to Take It Like A Man two starts ago, is in the game.

2 WOODMAN’s KEEP hasn’t missed a place in four previous runs, including a third last start over 1400m behind Lorentinio (13/9). Start prior was second to Golgotha over 1650, and placed on soft ground prior to that.

3 JAZARI another eye-catcher when second behind Take It Like A Man (13/9). Soft form the query, and hasn’t won since breaking maiden as a 2yo in July 2016, but should get a cosy run in transit from the inside alley.

4 SEALED WITH A KISS was gallant second behind Lorentinio (13/9) when had to cross from wide gate at Belmont. Has failed at two previous runs at the mile, and jumps from 1400m to 1700m here, but has placed on the heavy this campaign.

5 A FAIR LADY broke the duck in superb fashion with a last to first win a fortnight ago. Might have a bit of x-factor this girl and is still learning. Extra distance looks to suit, but limited form on rain affected ground isn’t great.

6 AQUAJINSKY struggled earlier this prep before getting up at Belmont in late August at $151 if you don’t mind. Just whacked away again last start though, and don’t expect to see her in the money here.

7 CALIBRA ran some solid late splits when a dashing fourth to Take It Like A Man over the 1650m at Belmont last start (13/9). Has soft form and is fourth-up now so should be peaking. Patrick Carbery has ridden at three previous starts since horse crossed from Victoria, and rides again here.

8 WANDERER hasn’t won since October 2014. She’s a trier but think she’ll find this company a little too difficult.

Selections: 7-3-4-2

Race 5 – 3.35pm: Heineken Hcp (1400m) - Bet with TABtouch

1 SIR SNUGALOT has been forced to work forward from a wide gate in his two previous runs, yet  showed plenty of grit in winning two starts back, before being narrowly beaten last time around. Jumps from the inside alley here which should make things easier. Down in grade sees a weight increase of 3kg, but has been competitive in two recent runs on the soft and hasn’t missed a place in his last five starts. Should be in the finish.

2 MYCROFT came with a fantastic finishing burst down the outside, to score last start over the 1400m at Northam (7/9). Up in class here but second-up should see improvement, and Ryan Hill sticks, having ridden past eight starts.

3 LOVEJOY deserves her crack in town after a number of promising runs up north. Runs best when her runs are spaced and has been over a month since her last run. This is tougher though, and she’s drawn awkwardly in eight.

4 STAR VALUE has only had the two starts but has shown good signs in both. The three alley will allow him to sit on speed, as appears the preference, and can definitely improve here second-up.

5 FORTY FOUR RED couldn’t find behind Tycoon Target last start after settling on speed (9/9). Drawn well in barrier four here and this assignment – now third-up – is easier.

6 KLEVA KEZZA was trapped three-wide no cover the trip, but was still brave to the line when seventh behind Take It Like A Man last start (13/9). Second-up here so should stripper but does jump from the outside gate so will need some luck.

7 SING FOR US DAN has been winning or thereabouts in all four runs this campaign. Would probably need to find another gear on said recent runs, but wouldn’t surprise here.

8 LONE SAILOR is first-up here following two trials. Has generally needed a run or two in the past, and will probably need this as well.

9 EXCUSE ME MAK was three lengths ninth behind Sir Snugalot last start. Can’t see that margin being cut into greatly here and would shock if winning.

Selections: 1-2-5-6

Race 6 – 4.10: Amelia Park Lamb Hcp (1200m) - Bet with TABtouch

1 WATTO’S FURY found a few a bit too sharp when sixth behind Dynamite Dream (16/9). Wasn’t far off Arrum Boy in that race, who has since come out and won, so should be more than competitive.

2 HAIL CAESAR is sure to be fitter for a debut second behind Rockon Tommy at Northam a fortnight back. Was a good effort after sitting three-deep no cover the trip from a wide gate. Drawn out in eight here, so just wonder where they go from the barrier.

3 WISE MONKEY resumes following two trials. Only had the one race start back in February. Prefer to observe here before investing.

4 SHOWCASE won like a good thing on debut over the 1000m at Northam (17/8). Result also came on soft going. Out of the same yard Mikimoto and the two may well fight out the finish here.

5 TRUTH AND LIES ran home quite strongly to score on debut at Northam on September 7. This is a different challenge altogether, but she’s one to consider for the trifectas for sure.

6 ALTA SULLA’MORE comes into this – a second career run – off two winning trials, one on a good 4, the other on a soft 5. Is drawn wide in gate nine, so will need some luck in running.

7 MIKIMOTO debuts here. Stretched out like a talented young horse when winning a 1000m trial on soft ground at Belmont on July 24. Drawn in barrier five and with William Pike aboard, a win on debut looks a strong chance.

8 NECKLET this is career start number one here also for this filly. Her two trials have been fair and she’s drawn well, so can run a cheeky race at double figure odds.

9 NONNA’s JEWEL went out quite hard and faded late when seventh behind My Demi on debut. She can come on from that, but will need to if she’s to figure in the placings.

10 NOTHING IN BETWEEN was out of her depth when finishing 8 lengths from the winner on debut. Hopefully for connections she can produce something better second-up, but looks tested again.

Selections: 7-4-1-6

Race 7 – 4.50pm: Thomas Sabo Hcp (1200m) - Bet with TABtouch

1 GENERAL HUSSON looked sharp when second two starts back before doing enough to score over the 1300m at Belmont on September 9. Back to the 1200m, but is drawn well and at start number five this campaign, should be at the top of his game.

2 MISS SONDRIO was no match for Floyd last start but still hit the line with plenty of intensity. Ran in just behind I Am Incredible in that race, who has since won, so can surprise here and will improve second-up, but soft form is the query.

3 THREESUN this grey gave Lucy Warwick a bit of trouble throughout the middle stages last start, but just went whoosh went she took him to the front, and never looked back. That was a slightly easier task than what he faces here, and from gate eight, probably needs everything to go right.

4 WARRIOR OF JUSTICE is three months in between runs here. Loomed in the straight over the 1300m at Pinjarra before peaking on run at the 100m mark. This is a significant jump in class but looks to have ability and produced a number of nice runs in Victoria, before moving to across to Perth.

5 HASHTAG missed the jump which cost her dearly last start, and didn’t make up a great deal of ground in the straight. She’s got ability no doubt, the issue is that in this grade she tends to find two or three better.

6 EXPRESS SNOOPER resumed from a spell in okay fashion last start when 2.5 lengths third behind Yeah Dardy. Not overly keen on gate nine here and after almost a year off prior to this campaign, think he may need this run as well.

7 GRECO won and placed before finishing fourth over the 1000m at Pinjarra last start. In same grade here and has proven form on soft and heavy going.

8 DE ANDES sat on a solid tempo last start and fell away late behind Young Gina. Things haven’t really clicked in four runs this time in, and doubt they will here.

9 TOSS ‘N’ SPIN is a 10yo fresh from just the one trial. First-up stats read nought from seven, as do second-up stats, so appears certain to need the run.

Selections: 1-4-7-2

Race 8 – 5.30pm: Tabtouch Hcp (1300m) - Bet with TABtouch

1 ST BEL just nailed Valtimor for second at Belmont last start, after tracking that runner the entire trip. Drawn well again and expect another bold showing second-up here.

2 LIQUID MAN is a former Victorian galloper who gave a glimpse of his talents in three runs in the bush. The last of those runs was back in May and hasn’t trialled here, so there are some unknowns. Market watch.

3 OLIVER’S TRAVELS really knuckled down to the task impressively in beating Tow Rope to break maiden at Belmont (26/7). That win came on heavy track over 1200m. Draws gate two for the second successive start here which should ensure a nice passage. Looking for 1300m.

4 VALTIMOR is another former Victorian galloper who was beaten odds-on favourite at first start for new stable, at Belmont on September 6. That said, was never really given a breather mid-race and still fought on well for third behind Multiverse. Prior to that scored a 7-length trial win on soft at Belmont (21/8).

5 HURRICANE JACK was pushed along a fair way from home when eight lengths off Multiverse on September 6. Can bounce back having finished in the placings in two runs prior to that. Gate nine isn’t ideal though.

6 PLAY FOR REAL was a $91 shot when sixth behind Multiverse last start. Should strip fitter second-up here and get a nice run from the inside gate. Expect a couple here might have him covered though.

7 MY NAUGHTY BLONDE is another that finished a long way behind Multiverse last start. Also second-up which should see improvement, but expect she’ll finish no better than midfield.

8 DIAMOND JOLSON did best work over the last 50m when sixth behind Father Knick at Belmont (6/9). Broke maiden on soft going over 1300m two starts prior to that.

9 SNITZERELLA is a month in between runs after just missing last time round at Broome. This is harder and gate ten stings a bit.

10 HIDDEN GRACE continued to find only to be nailed late by Mycroft at Northam last start. Hard to select on numbers – broke her maiden in May of 2015 and hasn’t won since.

11 WAVEHILL SPUR scratched.
