Key Runners: Amelia Park Karrakatta Plate Day at Ascot - Saturday 1 April

Expected weather: Sunny 30°C

Expected track rating: GOOD4

Rail position: Inside

Race 1 - 12:14PM JAMES BOAG'S PREMIUM MAIDEN (1200 METRES) – FULL FIELD

12. SHE BANGS THE DRUM is nice filly by American sire Pluck and looks to have speed to burn. She was good on debut earlier in the year and should jump and run again. A great each-way play.

2. VICTORIOUS LAD gave good cheek out in front last start only to get caught by Night Beat. He will go forward again from the good draw and run well.

4. SUNSET PETE was good last start at Mt Barker despite being a beaten favourite. He draws more favourably here and looks a real chance.

3. A KNIGHT OF PRO was just grabbed late last start by Regal Class at Bunbury, which has since come out and won. He has drawn a bit better here and the short odds suggest that he is the one to beat.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 12-2-4-3

SUGGESTED BET: 12. She Bangs The Drum – EACH WAY

Race 2 - 12:54PM AMELIA PARK LAMB HANDICAP (1000 METRES) – FULL FIELD

5. GLIMMER GIRL is the outsider of the field in betting but drops sharply from 1800m after over-racing in her recent runs over middle distance trips. Blinkers go on and she will burn along out in front. The daughter of Time Thief will be the one to catch.

4. SNOW LORD was good winning last start when well rated out in front by William Pike. Pike elects to stay on him rather than ride Glimmer Girl which suggests he may have had a little extra up his sleeve when winning last start.

1. DAINTY TESS is an iron filly which returns here. She’s won over $500,000 in prize money and has done a fantastic job for connections. She’s tough and honest but does have to carry 59kg with Sarah Bonner’s claim.

3. KRAMDEN is a fast gelding which just won last start at Bunbury in a maiden over 1000m. He only has to carry 51.5kg here and has to be in with a chance.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 5-4-1-3

SUGGESTED BET: 5. Glimmer Girl – EACH WAY

Race 3 - 1:34PM THOMAS SABO HANDICAP (2200 METRES) – FULL FIELD

2. ROYAL SUPREME is the one to beat if he can manage to hold recent form. The run last start when narrowly beaten by Shinta Mani was excellent. He looks to appreciate the staying trip.

7. BLUSTERY is a tough mare which was caught wide last start. She deserves another chance here at a nice price.

11. TRAP FOR FOOLS drops to open age restricted grade after racing well last start in the Melvista against the staying three-year-olds. He will be leading for a long way of this.

10. SONNEN had excuses last start when a well-beaten favourite. Give him another go at odds.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 2-7-11-10

SUGGESTED BET: 2. Royal Supreme – WIN

Race 4 - 2:14PM AMELIA PARK BEEF HANDICAP (1400 METRES) – FULL FIELD

6. RIPPER RIO had no luck first up when heavily backed to win. He got bumped from pillar to post and still managed to run on nicely for third. Out to 1400m with Pike on suits.

4. TRAVELLIN' should lead for in-form trainer Jim Taylor. On a day which could suit leaders, he will be the one to catch.

1. SETTLERS CREEK will have his 17th start this preparation and is yet to run poorly all campaign. He will get home well again as he usually does.

7. WRINKLY steps up to open age restricted company after striking form against his own age group. With only 56kg on his back, he will not know himself.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 6-4-1-7

SUGGESTED BET: 4. Travellin’ – EACH WAY

Race 5 - 2:55PM SCHWEPPES-GRANDSTAND CUP (1500 METRES) – FULL FIELD

2. GREAT SHOT meets Man Booker better at the weights after giving him a distinct weight advantage in their last two battles. He will lead on a day where easterly breezes are expected and that is a big plus for the son of Magnus.

1. MAN BOOKER hasn’t put a foot wrong since returning from a break. He is unbeaten this preparation and will go close to continuing that streak.

9. NORTH RIDGE has been interestingly placed this preparation. Seemingly there has not been many races to suit the 86-rater but he gets in nicely here and goes exceptionally well over the 1500m trip at Ascot. He is on the quick seven-day backup but was good last week behind Max Almighty.

3. RED ORA has been running on gamely all preparation. With an ounce of luck, he can feature in the finish.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 2-1-9-3

SUGGESTED BET: 1. Man Booker & 2. Great Shot - QUINELLA

Race 6 - 3:35PM AMELIA PARK LODGE HANDICAP (1000 METRES) – FULL FIELD

2. MARCHAND has backed up after a seven-day break before with success so this should be no worry for the seven-year-old. The run two starts ago behind Three Votes was brilliant and he should go well on that form.

5. MIGHTY BLONDE is a 1000m specialist and looks to get a brilliant run from barrier three. The 3kg claim helps and a win would not surprise.

7. SWEET ORA returns after a stellar 2016 campaign. The recent trial was sharp but Pike looked to have plenty left in the tank. Will start at short odds.

9. AMERICAN STAR was ridden to perfection last start by Aaron Mitchell. They went back and it proved the winning move. Barrier 11 will be of no concern as they will drop back and run on.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 2-5-7-9

SUGGESTED BET: 2. Marchand – EACH WAY

Race 7 - 4:10PM KIRIN MEGUMI-W.A. OAKS (2400 METRES) – FULL FIELD

1. ROYAL STAR is the best three-year-old by a long way. Whether she leads or takes a sit, it’s all academic as she will just win.

3. VAIN STRYKER is the place value in the race. She ran an unlucky second in the Listed Natasha Stakes. The daughter of English Derby winner Authorized will appreciate the extra distance.

5. VERY TEMPTING looks to be a very nice staying filly but has to topple the favoured stablemate. It happened last year when second elect for Bob and Sandra Peters First Impressions won the WA Oaks but it’s hard to see something of that nature happening here.

2. JUST LIKE FIRE was a bit unlucky when forced to make a long sustained run around the field. She got a bit tired late but should run well here.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 1-3-5-2

SUGGESTED BET: 1. Royal Star/3. Vain Stryker – EXACTA

Race 8 - 4:45PM AMELIA PARK-KARRAKATTA PLATE (1200 METRES) – FULL FIELD

4. WACKED OUT recorded the fastest time of all two-year-old races over 1100m this season. He will only be having his third race start so he should have plenty of improvement to come as he steps out to 1200m. He can lead all of the way here.

6. DEBELLATIO finally draws a suitable barrier and will look to settle close with cover. His three-wide run in the Perth Stakes was good but he can live up to the hype here and show that he is the real deal.

12. SEANNIE finished off like a steam train in the Group Three Gimcrack Stakes behind Kiss Bang Love. She has drawn two and can settle nearer to the fence with cover in the first half of the field. She is the best two-year-old in the field but that doesn’t necessarily mean she will win.

11. LUCY MAE is tough as old boots. The Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic winner will roll forward from the wide gate and be there for a long way.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 4-6-12-11

SUGGESTED BET: 4. Wacked Out – EACH WAY & 6. Debellatio – PLACE

Race 9 - 5:22PM AMELIA PARK WINES HANDICAP (1400 METRES) – FULL FIELD

8. STORM DANCER comes back down in distance but is drawn to get a beautiful run in the race. His last start win was dominant against the three-year-olds and he can do the same here against the older horses.

14. ELEGANT BLAST was good first up behind stablemate Quilista in the Listed Bunbury Stakes. She will improve off that run.

13. CROWDER is still a maiden but it was hard not to be impressed by his flashing last start third behind Patrimonio.

5. JUENDIS can run on strongly with a cold ride from back in the field. The Jim Taylor team is going great guns at the moment.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 8-14-13-5

SUGGESTED BET: 8. Storm Dancer – WIN
