Pale Rider

Pale Rider gets a Derby test

While the Group 2 WATC Derby (2400m) may be five months away, Pale Rider has been marked as a serious contender for the race already.

The three-year-old gelding by Rommel has only won the one race from six attempts, but he has shown ability which included finishing third in the Listed Fairetha Stakes over 1400m.

Trained by Ted Martinovich, he will step up from 1600m to 2000m this Wednesday at Belmont Park and take on the older horses.

It will be a great test for the youngster who will also have to carry the top weight of 60.5kg and jump from barrier 11.

The jockey rollercoaster continues for Pale Rider who has had six starts and three different riders riding him twice, Mitchell Pateman, Joesph Azzopardi and Jade McNaught. Pateman who is the only hoop to win on him will take the steer on Wednesday.
