Western Empire win at Bunbury Turf Club on 31 January 2021
Owner and breeder Bob Peters, will let the Listed Morley Growers Market Challenge Stakes (1500m) at Ascot on Saturday be an Australian Guineas trial for his talented three-year-old Western Empire.
Having already placed in Listed company and finishing fourth in the Group 2 Sky Racing-WA Guineas, Western Empire broke through last start at Bunbury winning impressively by over two-lengths.
If successful, Western Empire would follow a similar path to Superstorm who won the Listed Challenge Stakes last year before heading to Victoria and taking his place in the Group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington.
The task for Western Empire was made easier following the scratching of his stablemate Magical Dream, however the Iffraaj gelding will still have some tough company to beat, including Kissonallforcheeks who could also potentially head to Victoria and join her stablemate Elite Street, who will take his place in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes at Flemington this Saturday.
