Too Close to the Sun winning the Seacorp-Ascot Gold Cup at Ascot Racecourse

Too Close the Sun goes full circle

Talented five-year-old gelding, Too Close the Sun, will look to add a Group 1 to his resume when he steps out in the Group 1 Kirin-Railway Stakes at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday.

Trained by Lindsey Smith, he started his career in Western Australia, breaking through for his maiden victory in his second preparation.

He won three races from his four starts during that campaign and showed that he was a stayer with well-above average ability.

In his third preparation he had two starts in Western Australia which included another victory, before heading to the satellite stable of Smith’s in Warrnambool.

He continued his preparation in Melbourne with a third at Flemington and then a victory at Moonee Valley over 2040m.

He continued to race well, winning the Terang Cup and the Listed Warrnambool Cup before coming back home and finishing second in the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes and then winning the Listed Ascot Gold Cup last start.

Winning jockey from last start Joseph Azzopardi will stay in the saddle and from a wide draw the game plan will be simple, jump quickly, go to the front and see if they can hold on to score his first Group 1 victory.
