Perth Turns Pink for Iconic Events

Perth landmark, the Crawley Edge Boatshed has turned pink to celebrate three weeks of Group One Spring Racing for the TABtouch Masters, here in Perth.  The wrapping of the boatshed in pink is all part of the strategy to promote iconic events coming to Perth, The TABtouch Masters carnival is not only supported by tourism but attracts many interstate and international visitors to WA.

It might be a new spring activation but it’s an Instagrammer’s dream and it spearheads the elite thoroughbreds competing in the 2019 TABtouch Masters. The world’s only single-track festival featuring a Group One race worth $1,000,000 over three consecutive Saturdays and with a rich history dating back to 1887.

The excitement is building, starting with Perth’s oldest Group One race, the $1M Kirin Railway Stakes on 23 November. Next up is the $1M Crown Perth Winterbottom Stakes, Australia’s last Group One sprint of the year and wrapping up with the $1M Magic Millions Kingston Town Classic, the Southern Hemisphere’s richest Group One race over 1,800 metres.

In addition, 11 of the 27 races that comprise The TABtouch Masters carry black type status, including the $500,000 Group Two Sky Racing-WA Guineas for three-year-old gallopers and two $100,000 Listed events restricted to mares and three-year-old fillies.

Supported by Tourism WA - The TABtouch Masters is set to attract tens of thousands of local, national and international visitors. The first of these visitors, the elite thoroughbreds, arrived by plane on Tuesday 19 November and these Top Guns of racing have travelled to Perth for the 2019 TABtouch Masters and include:

The Masters has attracted several Top Gun jockeys too – here’s just a snapshot:

  • Damien Oliver, originally from Perth and arguably Australia’s best-known rider. He is an 8-time Scobie Breasley winner and member of racing’s Hall of Fame. He recently won the $2M Victoria Derby aboard Warning. He has been booked to ride Achernar Star in the Kirin-Railway Stakes and Dig Deep in the Sky Racing-WA Guineas, (which won the 2019 Amelia Park-Karrakatta Plate).
  • Jarrad Noske, has been booked to ride Samizdat in the Kirin-Railway Stakes and his sister the very talented WA female hoop, Jerry Noske will ride Mizlecki in the same race.
  • In the Crown Perth Winterbottom Stakes we’ll see Craig Williams and Damian Lane in action. In 2019, Williams rode Vow and Declare to win the Melbourne Cup in his 15th attempt in "the race that stops the nation". And 25 year old Damien Lane from WA, has had achieved a massive grand slam in the Australian Racing scene winning the Golden Slipper, Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate in 2019.

Perth Racing Managing Director, Professor John Yovich AM, said, “This is the fourth year of The TABtouch Masters and each year it gets bigger and better. We have been lucky enough to secure painting the Crawley Edge Boatshed pink to coincide with this great carnival.”

“We want all of Perth and its visitors to experience serious horseplay so for the first time we are introducing a $50 Masters Pass which will give you entry to all three racedays” he added.
