Racecourse management is a highly stressful occupation and, particularly in the social media age, track curators receive more than their fair share of criticism. But Murphy's Australian Racecourse Managers Association peers admired him greatly, so much so they named him Australia's Racecourse Manager of the Year twice in the space of three seasons. Murphy was the first person to receive that prestigious industry award multiple times.
