Essential Spice (red, white and royal blue colours) has a good chance of improving her winning strike rate at Belmont Park on Saturday

Punting Form race reports: Saturday 27 July

Essential Spice is one of the best Western Australia-based gallopers with fewer than two wins against their name and, according to Punting Form, she stands out in Saturday's Peter Griffin Birthday Handicap at Belmont Park.

William Pike jumps aboard Essential Spice for the first time and, while The Wizard's association with the three-year-old filly is likely to result in her TABtouch odds taking a hit, there is no-one else you would want holding the reins of the Pearce Racing-trained girl. Essential Spice's Punting Form personal best of -8.9 lengths is at least 5.3l superior to her Peter Griffin Birthday Handicap rivals and, while she missed the top three in the TABtouch - Better Your Bet Handicap two weeks ago, of her upcoming foes only Daishio recorded a better last-start figure. Important to note is Daishio has to carry three kilograms more than she lumped last time out and she is a very lightly framed filly.
