The Velvet King and some of his connections following his impressive Amelia Park Handicap win at Belmont Park

The Run of the Race: Episode 35

Impressive Racing gelding The Velvet King recorded the best Punting Form rating on Strickland Stakes Day at Belmont Park but, after breaking down the split and sectional times across Saturday's eight races, the wins of Samizdat and Galaxy Star were, arguably, equally impressive.

In the Nola Schlam 90th Birthday Handicap, Gangemi Racing boy Samizdat was 5.2 lengths off the leader and 1.8l behind Showmanship at the halfway point but he reeled off the fastest last 400 metres of the meeting to win with 62 kilograms on his back. And in the D'Orsogna?-Strickland Stakes, Williams Racing girl Galaxy Star made up 3.4l on Gatting in the final 200m to get up.

Remember, Perth Racing is offering free general admission to every thoroughbred racing meeting at Belmont Park this year.
