Galaxy Star (cerise and white colours) won the Belmont Sprint with a late, late burst of acceleration
Galaxy Star's Belmont Sprint-winning performance rated more than eight lengths inferior to her South African Airways-Asian Beau Stakes success over the same trip second up in her last campaign but she had no right to take out Saturday's Group Three contest from her in-running position.
According to Punting Form, which supplies the data that powers The Run of the Race, Galaxy Star was 5.9 lengths behind Great Shot with 800m of the Belmont Sprint remaining, 5.3l behind him with 600m to go, 4.0l behind him with 400m left and 3.4l behind him at the 200m pole yet she managed to prevail in spite of an early tempo much slower than the class benchmark.
