Ryan Jon joins Perth Racing as Reporter at Large

Showcasing the sport of kings from the customer point of view is the new content focus for Perth Racing who today announced that Ryan Jon, host of Hit929’s Heidi, Xavier and Ryan breakfast show will join them as Reporter At Large for the 2018 Ascot Racing Season.

Jon, who has a strong social media presence in Perth has amassed over 10 million views in 2018 alone and over 200 Million in his career, is delighted to be on course for the Club’s new role.

“I love getting outside and making videos on the street and what better place to do it than on race days at Ascot. Everyone loves having a great time at the Spring Racing Carnival and we’ll be sharing that fun online throughout the whole season.”

Jon’s Reporter-At-Large role will be that of a social biographer, interviewing customers, soaking up the atmosphere, taste testing at all the new bars and naturally, profiling the real stars of the show, the jockeys and horses.

“I don’t think we appreciate the discipline of the jockeys. Despite rocking a dad bod I’m going to spend 24 hours as a jockey to see just how hard the diet and training really is. Not very many jobs where you have to drop weight to go to work, certainly not breakfast radio, so I am really curious about the process and I’m keen to give it a crack.”

Perth Racing Commercial and Marketing General Manager Louise Ardagh said the idea to bring a social biographer on course came from a desire to increase the Club’s already strong social media footprint and use another channel to showcase the Carnival in a different way.

“We know that customers who come here love the surrounds, the day, the atmosphere and the beautiful grounds, but we also know that Ascot is a bit of a well-kept secret.”

“Ryan Jon’s online following has exploded in Perth this year and we could see that he had a really genuine way of engaging with people and telling a story and we wanted to have him tell our story too. There’s a lot of things that are part of a great day out at the Carnival, we think Ryan is going to have a lot of fun telling them” Ardagh said.
