WA affair for Magic Millions-Kingston Town Classic

The final event of the TABtouch Masters was quite the WA showcase with the southern hemisphere’s richest Group One, 1800 metre race. The $1M Magic Millions-Kingston Town Classic was an emphatic victory by WA star galloper Pounamu, on Saturday 9 December.

It was a WA affair for the 2017 Magic Millions-Kingston Town Classic - the first four a showcase of WA talent against the top interstate raiders. Following on from his Group 3 win a month ago in the Asian Beau Stakes, and completing the fastest last 600 metres in the Railway Stakes, Pounamu and Jockey Patrick Carberry have monstered through to claim the win in the Magic Millions Kingston-Town Classic. Second was Material Man with Jockey Mitchell Pateman, third Achernar Star with Jockey Chris Parnham and fourth Perfect Jewel with Jockey William Pike.

Perth Racing presented the Frank Treen Medallion and a cheque for $2,000 to series winning Jockey William Pike, after the final race of day three of The TABtouch Masters. Adam Durrant awarded the Albert Jordan Medallion for Top Trainer and $2,000, while the top Jockey aged 25 years or under, awarded to Chris Parnham with the Rodney Kemp Medal and $1,000.

Perth Racing Managing Director, Professor John Yovich said the Magic Millions-Kingston Town Classic, named after the legendary three-time WS Cox Plate winner, provided a terrific day out for families and friends.

“We’ve seen a fantastic racing series for the Group 1 TABtouch Masters, and today we’ve seen WA heroes dominate the Magic Millions-Kingston Town Classic,” John said.

With shaded gourmet picnics on the lawn, pony rides, flower crown making and face painting, bouncy castle and a special visit from Santa, Kingston Town is the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends before the busy Christmas period and a chance to experience the thrill of thoroughbred racing at its finest.

Professor Yovich said, ”the Masters was not just about first-class racing, but bringing people to Ascot to enjoy many experiences; including some of WA best local food and produce, WA wines, fashions and live music, gourmet events such as the new Masterpiece Series – a fantastic food and wine masterpiece partnership between Frasers Events and Catering and Perth Racing this year.”

Damien Cripps Duo entertained the crowd at the Pavilion Bar during the day, while local musician Dove kept the party going well after the last race in Stone Motherless Bar. This year’s TABtouch Masters attracted more than 20,000 guests over three consecutive Saturdays for the Group One $1M ultimate raceday experience with;

  • More than 4,000 bottles of champagne poured and more than 500 dozen fresh oysters shucked in restaurants, bars and trackside marquees.
  • More than 9,000 gourmet meals prepared and served from the menu.
