Perth Racing is just the ticket for Shauny Mac

Former Fremantle midfielder and current Perth media personality Shaun McManus is Perth Racing's number one ticket holder for the 2016-2017 season at Ascot Racecourse and Belmont Park.

Mr McManus, who played 228 Australian Football League games for Fremantle between 1995 and 2008 before embarking on his successful radio and television career with Nova 93.7 and the Nine Network respectively, accepted Perth Racing's honour during the Western Australian Racehorse Owners Association Awards Night at the Hyatt Regency Perth. He succeeds Perth Racing's inaugural number one ticket holder, Darren McAullay.

Neil Pinner, Chairman of Perth Racing, said the club was delighted to welcome Mr McManus to the ambassadorial role.

"We're very happy to award this prestigious position to Shaun, who's not only one of Western Australia's most well known and well loved sporting sons but also a huge supporter and follower of the racing industry. We're really looking forward to having him with us as we move into what's going to be an exciting and ground-breaking Ascot Racing Carnival," said Mr Pinner.

Mr McManus is related to Melbourne Cup-winning jockey JJ Miller and he was one of the owners of Group One-winning mare Ellicorsam, who claimed the 2006 Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville in her penultimate race before retiring.

"I've always loved racing and over the years I've enjoyed going to Ascot Racecourse and Belmont Park to watch my horses run and soak up the raceday experience. It's a privilege to be named as Perth Racing's number one ticket holder and I'm very much looking forward to being a part of what's shaping up to be a fantastic Ascot Racing Carnival," said Mr McManus.
