Broadway Brenda

Potential steppingstone for three-year-olds

Four three-year-olds will be hoping the Heineken 3 Handicap on Wednesday 16 March is a steppingstone to bigger things in the next few weeks.

Dangote, Disengo, Lautre and Broadway Brenda will all take their place in the 1800m event in Race 6 at Ascot Racecourse, with an eye on the Listed Schweppes-Melvista Stakes, Group 3 City of Belmont-W.A .Oaks and the Group 2 Schweppes-W.A.T.C. Derby.

Dangote has raw ability written all over him - the step up from 1200m to 1500m saw him dominate and win by over two-lengths. Trained by Kane Land, he is still green and further improvement in this race would come as no surprise.

Disengo ran on well last start from a wide draw. The extra 300m should suit the gelding by Toronado, but he will need some luck again from barrier 10.

Lautre stepped out to 1800m last start and proved too good. The gelding by Awesome Rock will push forward again with Shaun McGruddy staying in the saddle.

Broadway Brenda went from a Mount Barker second placing to a winner at Pinjarra over the mile. Nominated for the Listed Natasha Stakes on the weekend (scratched), Durrant has elected to take the safer option and head this way with Lucy Warwick in the saddle.
