The Velvet Queen

Strong field has assembled for the Byron Bay Premium Lager Handicap

Race two at Ascot Racecourse on Wednesday will see some promising three-year-olds step out in the Byron Bay Premium Lager Handicap over 1200m.

Ponyo for trainer Todd Harvey brings genuine Saturday form with strong performances around The Front Bar and was beaten less than 1.5 lengths in the Listed Placid Ark. With the claim to Kate Southam and jumping from barrier 3, the filly by Your Song should be in a prominent position.

Probity for Daniel and Ben Pearce beat Buzzoom last preparation over 1200m first-up and will be hoping to bring that same form to the start of this preparation. Like Ponyo, the stable has elected to claim, Holly Watson will take the ride and provide 3kg weight relief.

Wuhan Warrior beat Group 2 WA Guineas winner Treasured Star by 6.5 lengths back in July and did run a place on return last start.

Thomas Magnum, Marinsky Ballet, Seduce Me and The Velvet Queen have all won recently and look to be well above average.

Of the non-winners in the race, Border Force will make his debut off some promising trials, Tenacious Reward impressed on debut finishing second and Hart Trader ran well when finishing second two-starts ago.

It is the race of the day and should be a strong form reference moving forward.
