Wuhan Warrior Winning at Belmont Racecourse on Saturday 28 July 2021

Fifth jockey change for six-length winner

Leading jockey William Pike will take the sit on Wuhan Warrior this Wednesday at Belmont Park in the No Metro Wins Last Year 1200m.

Shaun McGruddy rode him to victory last start but is unavailable this week, forcing trainer Hayden Ballantyne to make the change.

Pike will be the fifth different jockey to ride Wuhan Warrior in five career race starts with Jade McNaught, Lucy Warwick and Paul Harvey the other jockeys to ride him.

The three-year-old gelding by Snippetson couldn’t have been any more impressive last start when winning by 6.5 lengths.

Having raced on a heavy 8 before, it appears it was the step up to 1200m that really benefited the speedy galloper.

Sticking to 1200m on Wednesday and potentially faced with wet conditions again, he will now have to carry 60kg, however it is only 2kg heavier than any other runner.

With only five other runners in the race, Wuhan Warrior looks the obvious leader again and a similar performance to last start will make him very hard to beat.
