Marocchino Winning Diggers Cup at Ascot Racecourse 24 April 2021

Marocchino searches for five in a row

The much-improved Marocchino will be hoping to make it five victories in a row when he steps out at Belmont Park on Saturday for the first race back at Belmont this year.

The four-year-old gelding has won the Albany Cup, Diggers Cup and Eurythmic Stakes in his last four races and is not showing any sign of letting up.

Despite going up in the weights, the Lou Luciani trained galloper was able to win last start by 2.9 lengths and that field included Group 1 winner Come Play With Me.

William Pike has been in the saddle for three of those victories and will take the reins again on Saturday after Chris Parnham rode last start while Pike was riding in Queensland.

With only four other runners accepting, it looks to be the easiest assignment this preparation for the improved stayer.

It’s a nine-race card at Belmont Park with the first starting at 12.02pm and the last commencing at 4.55pm.
