Montelena at Belmont Park

Light-weight filly favourite for Detonator

Four-year-old mare, Montelena, has opened up as the favourite for the Listed Detonator Stakes (1800m) at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday.

The Impressive Racing filly will only carry 53kg and have the states leading jockey in the saddle, Chris Parnham.

Montelena demonstrated her class last preparation by winning four races in a row, ranging in distance from 1600m to 2200m.

Having had a few months spelling, Montelena impressed first-up, finishing fourth in a benchmark 78 over 1600m, making up some late ground and suggesting the extra 200m will be a big benefit for her second-up.

Trainer Darren McAuliffe will be hoping Montelena can repeat the efforts of her stablemate Solaia, who also won a listed race last weekend.

It will not be the only chance in the race for Impressive Racing, with the stable also saddling up The Big Show.
