Stageman win at Belmont Park for Black Heart Bart Stakes 2020

Stage set for Carbery

Veteran jockey Patrick Carbery will chase his fourth Group 1 victory on Saturday at Ascot Racecourse when he rides Stageman in the Crown Perth-Winterbottom Stakes (1200m).

Carbery was the beneficiary of misfortune to fellow jockey Clint Johnston-Porter who will be on the sidelines following a lengthy suspension.

Stageman is one of the leading contenders in the race having had an extremely consistent preparation, which has included a victory in the Listed Black Heart Bart Stakes and a narrow second last start in the Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes.

While it is a great pick up ride for Carbery, he will have his hands full to ensure the six-year-old gelding by Written Tycoon jumps with the field with him being slow away in recent starts.

Carbery has had a year to remember and made the most of his latest opportunity in the cerise and white when he picked up the ride on Perfect Jewel and rode her to victory in the Group 3 Belmont Sprint and the Group 3 Seacorp-Hyperion Stakes.

The cerise and white will have a two-pronged attack in the Group 1 event with Celebrity Queen also taking her place with leading jockey Chris Parnham in the saddle.

Celebrity Queen held off the fast finishing Stageman last start in the Colonel Reeves.
