50 People Who Made The WATC - John Clark

John Clark was Secretary of the Western Australian Turf Club from 1916 to 1926 during what was an important time in the organisation's history before ill health forced him to give way to his long-time deputy, Edmond Marillier.

Clark was living in Western Australia when the position of WATC Secretary became vacant following the departure of George Wickham. Clark, whose brother Charley was a well known solicitor, worked alongside Charles Cox and Ernest Augustus Lee Steere before he ended up in hospital shortly after the WATC's annual meeting over the 1925 Christmas and 1926 New Year period. Clark travelled to Europe for health reasons, returning to WA in 1927 in much better shape but he relapsed and died in 1928 aged 68.
