50 People Who Made The WATC - Greg Carpenter

Greg Carpenter has handicapped 15 Melbourne Cups, including this year's edition of the race that stops a nation, but prior to joining Racing Victoria in 2005, Subiaco Football Club Inc.'s 1988 WAFL Grand Final-winning captain worked his work through the ranks of the Western Australian Turf Club.

Carpenter was playing for the East Perth Football Club Inc in 1981 when Royals coach Grant Dorrington told him to get a job in the city instead of heading home to Albany. Carpenter stumbled across a WATC advertisement in The West Australian, landed the position and went on to become the organisation's Racing Manager and Chief Handicapper, roles he continued to fulfill when Racing and Wagering Western Australia - RWWA succeeded the WATC as the state's principal racing authority. Carpenter continues to be a great friend and supporter of WA racing.
