50 People Who Made The WATC - Allan Scahill

Allan Scahill served more than 20 consecutive seasons on the Committee of the Western Australian Turf Club and he was a founding member of WA's Totalisator Agency Board, contributing to its governance for 17 years.

Born in the abandoned Goldfields town of Burbanks in 1905, Scahill joined the WATC's Committee in 1953 and he had the honour of being its Vice Chairman in 1975, which was his final season. No WATC representative devoted more time and energy to the WATAB Board than Scahill and his community service was recognised in 1979 when he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his work in sport and commerce.

Scahill died in 2000 but the AJ Scahill Stakes, a Group Three race over 1,400 metres at Ascot Racecourse, means his name lives on today.
