O'Grady Lefroy was not only one of the 20 people who formed the Western Australian Turf Club in 1852 but also the organisation's first Chairman, a position he held on three separate occasions in the 1860s and 1870s.

Lefroy served as the WATC's Chairman from 1867 to 1868, 1872 to 1873 and 1874 to 1876. Born in Ireland in 1816, Lefroy migrated to Western Australia aboard the Lady Grey in 1842. Lefroy was Governor Charles FitzGerald's Private Secretary from 1843 to 1855 and then he was appointed Colonial Treasurer. Lefroy occupied that senior role for more than 30 years, his tenure ending was John Forrest was sworn in as Western Australia's first Premier in 1890. Lefroy passed away in 1897.
