British Bessy (maroon and yellow colours) finished second behind Throwdown at Ascot Racecourse before breaking her maiden at Northam

Punting Form race reports: Wednesday 29 May

British Bessy broke her maiden on her 12th start and the Sharon Miller-trained staying mare has a good chance of avoiding an unlucky 13th run when she contests Wednesday's Lorna Mitchell Handicap at Belmont Park.

Chris Parnham replaces William Pike aboard British Bessy because The Wizard is committed to ride Peters Investment-owned filly Morning Song. According to Punting Form, British Bessy posted her personal best numbers in winning over 2,200m at Northam two weeks ago in what was a high-rating race for one on Western Australia's provincial circuit. A strong closer in each of her three races over at least 2,000m, British Bessy maps well and, looking at Punting Form's data, only top weight Jacka's Mob has put up a better performance during the last two years than the four-year-old daughter of Dick Turpin and British Version.
