Ease into the evening with twilight thoroughbred racing at Ascot Racecourse

Ascot Racecourse to trial Wednesday twilight meetings

Wednesday twilight thoroughbred racing is coming to Ascot Racecourse in January and February as Perth Racing, with the support of Racing and Wagering Western Australia and Sky Racing, trials running midweek meetings later in the day.

Starting on 23 January and continuing for six consecutive weeks, Perth Racing's Wednesday thoroughbred race meetings will run from mid afternoon until approximately 30 minutes before sunset. For example, the eight-race Ascot Racecourse program on Wednesday 23 January is scheduled to begin at 3:04 and end at 6:45, with the sun setting at 7:23.

"What better way to spend the final few hours of a summer's day in Australia's sunniest capital city than to experience thoroughbred racing at Ascot Racecourse in the company of family, friends and, perhaps, work colleagues after a tough day at the office. It's the perfect sports sundowner," said Professor John Yovich AM, Managing Director of Perth Racing.

Yovich said positive feedback from racegoers who have attended Perth Racing's impromptu twilight thoroughbred meetings in recent summers is just one of the reasons why he is tipping the trial arrangement, which has the backing of Western Australia's principal racing authority and the club's broadcast partner, will prove to be a winner.

"More on-course punters will be able to make it to the track and more off-course punters will be able to watch the best of Western Australian racing on Sky Thoroughbred Central due to its expanded coverage of Perth Racing events before Hong Kong starts and after Australia's eastern states finish."

General admission to Perth Racing's Wednesday twilight thoroughbred racing meetings is free of charge.
