Summit Trail may break his long run of outs if he can find a good in-running position on Wednesday at Ascot Racecourse

Punting Form race reports: Wednesday 19 December

According to Punting Form, Summit Trail's two-year personal best rating is better than any of his Hahn SuperDry Handicap rivals on Wednesday at Ascot Racecourse and, in what shapes as a winnable race, he is its neural price favourite even though he will have to break his long run of outs from the outside gate.

Not since breaking his maiden over 1,600 metres at Northam in June 2017 has Summit Trail won a race but he has four placed times since his Avon Valley victory and there was merit to his first-up performance at Pinjarra when he recovered from starting slowly and finding himself much further back in the field than usual to rattle off the fastest last 200m split and finish a relatively close fifth. Summit Trial is a natural on-pace galloper - he has led nine of his 17 races - so if Troy Turner can position him in a good spot in spite of his wide barrier draw then he should have a decent chance of winning another contest for his connections.
