Punting Form race reports: Wednesday 10 October

Third in last season's Melvista Stakes at Ascot Racecourse as a three-year-old, The Big Show merits favouritism for Wednesday's Rentokil Initial Handicap over 1,400 metres on the final day of thoroughbred racing at Belmont Park this year.

The Big Show kicked off his four-year-old campaign five weeks ago over the same course and distance he will face on Wednesday and, while he was beaten by hat-trick completer King Blitz and subsequent winner Recharger, his effort was a clear personal best based on Punting Form's data because the first half of that race was run at an extremely fast tempo for a Class Three handicap. Darren McAuliffe elected to freshen The Big Show following that strong effort and he has trialled well ahead of his second-up assignment in the same grade as last time out. With the likes of American Joy and Watch Me Ney Ney first up in the Rentokil Initial Handicap, Wednesday's contest does look perfect for The Big Show with a run, albeit early last month, under his belt and he maps as crossing from gate 10.
