Essential Spice (left) has clocked excellent Punting Form figures on each of her two starts

Punting Form race reports: Saturday 7 July

Fire And Rain has won three of his four races but, according to Punting Form, he is a false favourite for the Kirin Megumi Plate that will start Saturday's Belmont Park card with its data pointing to Essential Spice having produced superior efforts.

Essential Spice has chased home Market Ruler on each of her two starts but she performed well on both occasions, especially four weeks ago in a run Punting Form rated 3.8 lengths faster than Fire And Rain's personal best. The TABtouch opening market on the Kirin Megumi Plate was 2.60 Fire And Rain, 2.75 Essential Spice, 4.20 Kiss The Breeze, 6.50 Ngawi and 15.00 bar but Punting Form's data points to the Daniel & Ben Pearce filly being worthy of favouritism, particularly as she will carry 5.5 kilograms less than Paul Jordan's jump-and-run colt.
