Perth families flock to Good Friday at Ascot Racecourse

Perth families flocked to Ascot Racecourse in their thousands today to make the most of the second year of racing on Good Friday.

Last year, Perth Racing became the first Australian thoroughbred racing club to host a Good Friday meeting, attracting more than 6,000 people to its family-friendly event at Ascot Racecourse.

This year, a crowd of more than 9,000 made the most of free gate entry, free rides for children and a nine race program.

“Perth families clearly love the idea of spending the day at Ascot on Good Friday,” according to Perth Racing’s Managing Director, Professor John Yovich.

“This year we provided more free rides for the kids, added in some extra food trucks and food outlets and of course, offered FREE entry to everyone.”

“There was a full nine race competitive program on offer, so for parents, kids, family and friends, there was something for everyone at Good Friday at Ascot,” Yovich said.

Good Friday racing at Ascot Racecourse featured two stakes races – the $150,000 Perth Stakes for the two-year-old boys and the $150,000 Gimcrack Stakes for the two-year-old girls.

In impressive back to back wins, local jockey Joseph Azzopardi took out top place in both the Iron JackPerth Stakes on Chix Pic in Race 6 and the Montague Partners-Gimcrack Stakes on Agent Pippa in Race 7.
