Perth’s Best Railway Stakes Ever

Perth’s World Class Racing Carnival the TABtouch Masters returns with the $1,000,000 James Boag’s Premium-Railway Stakes this Saturday 25 November at Ascot Racecourse.

The $1,000,000 James Boag’s Premium Railway Stakes is Perth’s oldest Group One race dating back to 1887. Despite many memorable editions in the past, Perth Racing General Manager Professor John Yovich is in no doubt that Saturday’s 16-horse field is the best there’s ever been.

“Each year we see a fantastic line-up of horses contest the James Boag’s Premium-Railway Stakes, one of Australia’s most time-honoured races. With respect to history, this year’s Railway Stakes has gone to a whole new level,” Yovich said.

“Perth Racing has lured an unprecedented amount of top-class horses across the Nullarbor, with seven interstate runners to contest the million dollar mile, making it the best Railway Stakes ever.”

Champion trainers Gai Waterhouse, Chris Waller, David Hayes and Darren Weir will all saddle-up starters in the race, with Weir to prepare former WA champion Black Heart Bart.

“It’s great to see Black Heart Bart in the race. A five-time Group One winner, he’s a world class racehorse,” Yovich said.

“But he won’t have it all his own way; all of the eastern state horses have been in tremendous form, as have our local gallopers.”

Nine WA horses will fly the flag for the locals; with reigning winner Scales Of Justice, Group 3 Lee Steere Stakes winner Silverstream and Ascot Gold Cup victor Gatting just three of several chances in the race.

With fine weather expected for Saturday’s 9-race program, patrons can soak up the fun at the James Boag’s Beer Garden, enjoy a four-course buffet luncheon at Terrance Restaurant, a shaded Gourmet Picnic for two – in an exclusive area trackside, or with a group of friends at the Enclosure on the Deck.

Pop up bars, photo booths, and singer Mitchell Martin will also be on course, while local rising star Howie Morgan will play in the James Boag’s Premium Beer Garden. Guests can stroll the lawn and head to the newest outdoor venue for all sort of bevvies in the new Mumm Champagne Garden.

In addition to the race-day festivities, popular Melbourne acts DJ Brooklyn and Some Blond will keep the party going well after the last race, while top Chef Chris Taylor will headline the dining scene at The Platform with his all-new Masterpiece Series Menu, curated specifically for the event.

“Perth Racing has made it a clear focus to provide our patrons with the best entertainment, on and off the track,” Yovich said.

This year’s new travel and hospitality packages, developed in partnership with Tourism WA, offer extraordinary experiences and are proving a hit with enthusiasts visiting Perth. Including legends such as race caller Greg Miles, the voice of Melbourne Cup, who will join us at this year’s James Boag’s Premium Railway Stakes.

“Greg has been the voice of Victorian racing for more than three decades and is an absolute racing legend,” Perth Racing Ambassador Brittany Taylor, the daughter of trainer Jim Taylor, said.

“It’s fantastic to see such a stellar line up of eastern states thoroughbreds heading to Perth along with legendary racing enthusiasts and visitors.”
