Epic Grey and Saturia

Key runners: Belmont Park – Saturday 2 September

Expected weather: Shower or two 16 degrees Celsius

Expected track rating: Soft 6

Rail position: 6 metres

Race 1 12:38 TABtouch Maiden (1,200m) – Bet with TABtouch

1 CRICKET INDA HOUSE was fifth of 12 over 1,200m at Belmont Park two weeks ago. His speed ratings have been on the slide throughout his current preparation and he has drawn the widest gate so he is likely to find himself towards the rear.

2 PASAJERO has posted consecutive fourths at Northam, the first over 1,000m and the most recent over 1,100m. Lisa Staples retains the ride but it is hard to see her registering her first metropolitan winner for the season aboard him.

3 BLOOMY'S SUN is a relative of Listed winner Doyoudare and a familiar face at Belmont Park over the last few months, Jetoomy. He has had four barrier trials and he won the third of them when fitted with blinkers and he debuts in shades.

4 KIA ORA STAR has a well known full brother, Kia Ora Koutou, which was third in the 2015 Victoria Derby, won the JRA Trophy at Listed level in 2016 and started last year's Perth Cup as its favourite. Kia Ora Koutou has not won below 1,400m.

5 EXCELLENT JERRY led at a faster than benchmark tempo on her return over 1,200m at Belmont Park two weeks ago before compounding. Her personal best occurred in tandem with William Pike over 1,200m at Ascot Racecourse in April.

6 FAIRTORE was second of 13 over 1,300m at Northam 16 days ago. Fiona Bell regains the ride aboard the mare having partnered her in a couple of Pinjarra Park maidens over wildly differing distances, finishing sixth and 10th.

7 BELLFLOWER was fourth of 16 over 1,200m at Pinjarra Park nine days ago in which there was little to choose between her and No Ordinary Girl. She has gone backwards since her fair debut over 1,200m at Belmont Park in June 2016.

8 SCUFFY is third up after her 475-day spell. She wore bar plates in the second of her two runs in her first preparation so clearly she has had issues but she has drawn an inside gate, blinkers go on and her two recent runs have been sound.

9 NO ORDINARY GIRL was third of 16 over 1,200m at Pinjarra Park nine days ago in the same race as Bellflower. She has drawn a stickier gate though last time out and, therefore, she may struggle to get the better of Bellflower again.

10 PRINCESS ZELDA was seventh of 12 over 1,200m at Belmont Park two weeks ago in a similar race. She is not weighted to turn the tables on either Excellent Jerry or Cricket Inda House even though she is second up from her 181-day spell.

11 ANDALUZ has had one barrier trial in preparation for her debut, finishing fourth of seven over 1,000m at Belmont Park nearly two months ago. An outside gate and the lack of recent preparatory activity are legitimate concerns.

12 FOXY DIVA has been well beaten in each of her two 1,000m Belmont Park barrier trials so it is difficult to make a case for her winning on debut. It is also well worth noting her barrier trials took place in March and April.

13 PIRATES MISTRESS gets her fourth different jockey in four starts as Randy Tan succeeds Shaun McGruddy, Shaun O'Donnell and Matthieu Autier. She has not been a factor in her three maiden races and she is first up after 106 days off.

Race 2 1:18 Amelia Park Lodge Plate (1,400m) – Bet with TABtouch

1 DEBELLATIO disappointed on his first appearance since leading all the way in the WA Sires' Produce Stakes, failing to run down Turbo Power over 1,300m at Belmont Park two weeks ago and the form of that race is not working out well.

2 LOB CITY ran the fastest final furlong behind Debellatio over 1,300m at Belmont Park two weeks ago and she did likewise in one of her other two runs over course and distance. It is quite possible she is better suited to 1,300m than 1,400m.

3 REBELLIONAIRE broke his maiden when taking out a 1,200m midweek race at Belmont Park 10 days ago. He may not be a world beater but he profiles as a likely improver over 1,400m and he retains the services of William Pike.

4 LAUFEY beat Abdicator over 1,303m at Pinjarra Park 23 days ago but that form did not hold up on Wednesday when Abdicator finished third of six in a weaker contest. He will have to improve on his maiden victory to feature in the finish.

5 PIERONOVA has finished ninth in each of his two races either side of his 159-day spell so it is incredibly tough to construct an argument for him beating the likes of Group Three winner Debellatio and promising type Rebellionaire.

6 BLUE HORSE is, on paper, the stronger of the two Ashley Maley-trained runners which accepted the challenge. She was eighth of 13 over 1,000m at Belmont Park 21 days ago in what was a sound if unspectacular start to her racing career.

Race 3 1:58 Mumm Champagne Plate (1,000m) – Bet with TABtouch

1 WACKED OUT underwent a dynamic endoscopic examination following trackwork that revealed he had flipped his palate. A nose band goes on and an alternative tongue tie fitted as he tries to find his Perth Stakes-winning form from March.

2 EPIC GREY held on to be a winning favourite over 1,200m at Belmont Park seven days ago. Lindsey Smith drops him back to the 1,000m trip over which he almost ran down Saturia at the same venue three weeks ago when he had a wide gate.

3 SATURIA made a successful debut after two barrier trial victories when leading all the way from gate three over 1,000m at Belmont Park three weeks ago. She meets Epic Grey better at the weights but she may find herself wide on the track.

4 ARRUM BOY was second of 10 over 1,000m at Northam 16 days ago. He was 10th of 16 in last season's Karrakatta Plate but his speed figures out of that Group Two race are inferior to what several of his rivals have recorded.

5 GET THE VIBE posted a decent speed rating when making a winning debut over 1,100m at Ascot Racecourse in March. She was plain when last of four on her next start so it is hard to know what to expect from her first up after 133 days off.

6 CARESS YOUR SOUL was scratched from Wednesday's meeting at Belmont Park. She broke her maiden over 1,200m at Northam 16 days ago but she has a lot to find on some of her opponents based on her runs behind Danes Maree et al.

7 TOROTEIJA has registered back-to-back seconds, first over 1,200m at Belmont Park in June and most recently over 1,000m at Northam 16 days ago. She boasts poor head to heads versus Caress Your Soul so she does not make the shortlist.

8 COLOUR WITNESS was in the hunt for a long way when she debuted over 1,000m at Belmont Park three weeks ago, ultimately finishing third behind Saturia and Epic Grey. She may not have what it takes to turn the tables on those runners.

Race 4 2:38 James Boag’s Premium Handicap (1,200m) – Bet with TABtouch

1 ATLANTA BLUE recorded the fastest final furlong over 1,400m at Belmont Park two weeks ago but his best speed ratings have been over 1,200m so the drop back in trip is good. He rated well when winning over course and distance in June.

2 ON TREND returns from 250 days off with the benefit of two 1,000m Belmont Park barrier trials. He has won first up twice in his three campaigns so he is worthy of some respect and his Christmas Eve effort was not his true form.

3 PRIZE CATCH disappointed when ridden close to the speed over 1,650m at Belmont Park three weeks ago. Dropping back to 1,200m may not be ideal following two runs over 1,650m but it is the trip over which he has run best.

4 PARADING was scratched from Wednesday's meeting at Belmont Park. He beat Ragnar's Saga to make a winning reappearance over 1,200m at Belmont Park four weeks ago before making a poor start over 1,203m at Pinjarra Park last time out.

5 PATAPUS ran really good speed figures three starts ago when flashing home to win over 1,000m at Belmont Park. She has performed adequately in each of her last two races but she looks more like a five-furlong sprinter than anything else.

6 INVINCIBLE WARRIOR went down by a narrow margin over 1,000m at Belmont Park two weeks ago in a race that rated quite well. His 1,000m numbers are better than his 1,200m ones but clearly Jim Taylor thinks he will get the trip.

7 YOUNG GINA drifted in the market before finishing eighth of 11 over 1,400m at Belmont Park two weeks ago. Grant and Alana Williams were bullish about her future before that race but she is not a betting proposition until proven otherwise.

8 DE ANDES has not won for 499 days and none of his recent performances has been up to the standard that is likely to take out this contest. His most recent victory was over 1,200m at Bunbury in April 2016 under Glenn Smith.

9 JUPITER RISING is certainly one of the most consistent gallopers from a ratings perspective in Western Australia and, while he went close to winning over 1,300m at Belmont Park seven days ago, his personal best occurred over 1,200m.

10 KRYPTO KID maps as the probable leader and gets in very light thanks to Kate Fitzgerald's claim. She has won a Lark Hill barrier trial ahead of her first race in 240 days. Her fate will depend upon the level of pressure that her rivals apply.

11 ROTANA BEACH finished stone motherless of 11 over 1,400m at Belmont Park two weeks ago. He may not have handled backing up seven days following his fourth of nine over 1,200m at Belmont Park on Saturday 12 August.

Selections: 1-6-9-3

Race5 3:17 Heineken Handicap (1,400m) – Bet with TABtouch

1 OUTLAW PETE was sixth of 10 over 1,300m at Belmont Park two weeks ago. He has won over distances ranging from 1,200m to 2,150m but he is a certified stayer at the age of six so wait for him getting out to 1,800m and farther.

2 JUST MAGICAL has placed third in three of his five races since making the switch from Victoria. He was the fastest finisher over 1,200m at Belmont Park seven days ago but his best speed ratings have been over that trip rather than 1,400m.

3 PINZU was one stride away from making a winning return over 1,300m at Belmont Park two weeks ago. He reopposes Our Finest Moment on much better weight terms and he is likely to improve stepping up to 1,400m second up.

4 WAR GOD prevailed over course and distance five starts ago but most of his good performances have been on dry tracks and he will jump from the widest gate. His two victories on soft surfaces were achieved in much easier grade.

5 MY GREEK BOY keeps collecting bronze medals having strung together three third places either side of his 91-day spell. He is in career-best form but he may need to go to another level to make it two wins from seven Belmont Park starts.

6 JUICING CARROTS won a Lark Hill barrier trial over 1,450m on Monday and he may be capable of running well at big odds. He gets many gear changes and he recorded unusually strong speed figures for Bunbury over 1,410m in December.

7 OUR FINEST MOMENT held on to beat Pinzu over 1,300m at Belmont Park two weeks ago. Clearly he has returned from his 217-day break in fine fettle and, while he may not get the better of Pinzu again, he is a definite contender.

8 FLYING ROAR needs a dry track to produce his best form. He has won eight of his 33 races on good-rated surfaces but he has just one second place to show for his five starts in wet conditions and, also, he may prefer less than 1,400m.

9 SPECIAL DELIVERY was fifth of seven over 1,600m at Kalgoorlie 13 days ago when losing to Bollywood Blitz for the second time in a row. He has gone through several stables and he is another galloper which probably wants a wet track.

10 GREY ENIGMA will race in bar plates and that is a negative for most punters. He was fifth of eight in a 1,000m Belmont Park barrier trial ahead of his first race since finishing fifth of eight over 1,300m at Belmont Park nine weeks ago.

Selections: 3-7-6-2

Race 6 3:52 Crown Perth Handicap (2,000m) – Bet with TABtouch

1 THE FORGOTTEN ONE got up to beat Shinta Mani over 2,100m at Belmont Park three weeks ago. His personal best speed rating was achieved over this kind of trip at Ascot Racecourse in December but it is a few lengths off other opponents.

2 KIROV BOY finished stone motherless of nine over 1,600m at Belmont Park two weeks ago and it been an extremely long time since he placed in the city. That was when he was second over 3,200m at Ascot Racecourse in April 2016.

3 ALREADY FAMOUS has performed creditably in each of his two races this preparation, most recently when fourth of nine over 1,600m at Belmont Park two weeks ago. His record suggests he needs to strike a dry track to excel, though.

4 SHINTA MANI has finished fourth, third and second in her last three races so perhaps she is destined to win her eighth event. She has won over trips from 1,600m to 2,200m but she posted her best speed figure over the former.

5 JETOOMY was a lay over 2,100m at Belmont Park two weeks ago when, yet again, his speed rating regressed from what he had recorded on his previous start. His raw numbers suggest he has reached the end of his preparation.

6 WOODSVILLE finished seventh of nine over 1,600m at Belmont Park two weeks ago. He has not won for 706 days and that triumph occurred in the Kalgoorlie Cup over 2,300m at Listed level. He will race on the speed because that is his style.

7 CHARLESTOWN almost made all over 2,100m at Belmont Park two weeks ago. Jordan Turner, who is based in Victoria these days, takes over from Lucy Warwick and claims 1.5 kilograms to reduce his mount's impost to just 53kgs.

8 VERDELLO BLUE keeps running honest races at the grand old age of 11 years. He finished second to Jetoomy over 2,000m at Belmont Park four weeks ago when Justin Warwick's galloper was bang in form. He is one for exotic wagers.

9 DANEHILLS DAUGHTER completed her hat-trick when defeating, among others, Jetoomy and Verdello Blue over 2,200m at Belmont Park six weeks ago. She has the best speed rating in the race and she has more upside than her rivals.

10 ENTRECHAT gets the assistance of William Pike for the first time since they got together to win over 2,100m at Belmont Park in June 2016. She does not want it too wet but she is a definite place chance with Perth's champion jockey aboard.

11 LET'S TWIST drops five kilograms from the weight she carried to win over 2,000m at Belmont Park 10 days ago. Like Danehills Daughter, she is open to improvement but her late sectionals are not as good as that of her fellow mare.

12 WAR KSAR backs up seven days after finishing seventh of 10 over 1,600m at Belmont Park. The last time he ran twice in such quick succession he finished fourth of 13 over 2,200m at Ascot Racecourse in a race that Shinta Mani won.

Selections: 9-11-10-8

Race 7 4:30 The Carbine Club of WA-Apprentices’ Cup (2,200m) – Bet with TABtouch

1 BLACKWOOD won for the first time since October 2015 when she beat, among others, Caralabek and Cougar Nights over 2,100m at Belmont Park two weeks ago. If she recaptured her three-year-old form she would rate very highly.

2 CARALABEK is 528 days without a win following a string of recent near misses in Belmont Park races ranging from 2,000m to 2,200m on soft surfaces since early July. He must break through eventually because he is fairly strong late in events.

3 COUGAR NIGHTS has not won for 574 days and, according to the clock, his best speed ratings have occurred over much shorter journeys than 2,200m. He has not placed in the city since his Detonator Stakes third over 1,800m in February 2016.

4 CONFUSING has won a couple of races on his new home track of Kalgoorlie since joining Neil Dellar's Goldfields stable from that of Neville Parnham. A wide gate is far from ideal on his first crack at a metropolitan race since April.

5 ROMELO is known for being a full brother of Group One winner Rising Romance but he does not share her talent and, if anything, he is much better suited to 1,600m than the staying trips over which his famous sister excelled.

6 BURGER TIME fried a midweek field over 2,100m at Belmont Park 17 days ago, winning by 5.8 lengths with 59 kilograms on his back. Aaron Bazeley has always had a high opinion of him and he will take a lot of beating carrying 55kg.

7 QUINTESSENCE has been tasting defeat in Broome in recent weeks so today's feature race may be a bit too rich for her. Her latest metropolitan race resulted in a well beaten ninth of 12 over 2,100m at Belmont Park in August 2016.

8 DAISY EXPRESS has not won in the city despite having several stabs at it over the course of her 54-start career. Thirteen days ago she finished seventh of nine over 2,140m at Kalgoorlie and that form reference is not up to this grade.

9 DUSTY STORM has made it four wins from 28 starts with two recent 2,200m Northam victories on soft tracks. She boasts no fewer than three good head to heads versus Burger Time when you take into account varying weight swings.

10 ELEGANT BLAST was third of 13 behind Dusty Storm over 2,200m at Northam 16 days ago. She contested a trio of Listed races at Belmont Park in July, including finishing third in the Belmont Oaks over 2,000m having been well in the market.

11 GINGER NINJA is well weighted based on his four clashes with Dusty Storm since early May and Tayla Stone is Perth's in-form apprentice jockey having ridden four metropolitan winners since the new season began last month.

12 BOZCCADA is not weighted to turn the tables on Dusty Storm from their clash over 2,200m at Northam 16 days ago. His most recent performance was a huge improvement on his previous two efforts but he needs to improve yet again.

13 MIXED MESSAGES was no match for Burger Time over 2,100m at Belmont Park 17 days ago and there was nothing in that race to suggest she will get close to reversing the result. She won over 2,200m at Northam three starts ago.

14 TONED is impossible to fancy based on any number of performances, not least his sixth of nine over 2,120m at Kalgoorlie 27 days ago. He has not won for 587 days and he is not getting better 108 starts into his career and aged nine years.

Selections: 6-10-11-9

Race 8 5:05 Lavazza Handicap (1,650m) – Bet with TABtouch

1 KINGDOM AND EMPIRE made it three provincial wins when he pipped Forty Four Red over 1,400m at Pinjarra Park nine days ago. He has struggled whenever encountering a rain-affected surface so that is a concern given the forecast.

2 TAXAGANO made the most of his class drop from Listed company to take out a 62+ race over 1,650m at Belmont Park three weeks ago. He broke his maiden over 1,600m in February so he may want farther than one mile these days.

3 WITNESS IN COURT allowed Reef Keeper to build up too much of a lead over 1,650m at Belmont Park 10 days ago. He gets a 1.5-kilogram weight pull from Reef Keeper and he boasts good head to heads against Kingdom And Empire.

4 GOLDBO has been beaten by wide margins in three Broome races since early July and her most recent crack at a city contest saw her finish 12th of 16 over 1,400m at Belmont Park 12 months ago in her final start for Fred Kersley.

5 QUEST TO VENUS is seeking a rapid hat-trick after winning two 1,400m Belmont Park races in August. She is bang in form but she takes on the boys after posting the second of her victories in fillies and mares grade two weeks ago.

6 REEF KEEPER rolled along under William Pike to make a winning reappearance over 1,650m at Belmont Park 10 days ago. His trainer, Daniel O'Connor, told reporters he is targeting the Perth Cup and the Wizard sticks with the gelding.

7 SLICK TALKER did not threaten to defeat Reef Keeper over 1,650m at Belmont Park 10 days ago and now he has gone 511 days since saluting the judge. His latest triumph occurred over 2,200m at Ascot Racecourse in April 2016.

8 SONNEN chased home Reef Keeper over 1,650m at Belmont Park 10 days ago, closing the gap to 0.8 lengths at the winning post. That was his first run since April so he is likely to improve but he is yet to prevail in a race below 2,000m.

9 IN THIS LIFE ran out of ground to catch Quest To Venus over 1,400m at Belmont Park two weeks ago. The eyes say she should like stepping up to 1,600m but the clock says she has struggled to record good speed figures beyond seven furlongs.

10 BLACK LILLY finished fifth of 11 behind Reef Keeper over 1,650m at Belmont Park 10 days ago. She was losing ground over the closing stages of that contest and, deep into her preparation, she did not have the excuse of poor fitness.

11 PROCLAMATION recorded a really good speed figure in Victoria but it was in a 2,200m Sale race in February 2016. He has won at Belmont Park but his 1,700m victory in early July did not rate highly due to its pedestrian tempo.

12 THE ESCAPE PLAN was somewhat disappointing when ninth of 11 behind Reef Keeper over 1,650m at Belmont Park 10 days ago. She raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages so she may be capable of better if she settles.
