Key runners: Belmont Park – Wednesday 30 August
Expected weather: Showers 20 degrees Celsius
Expected track rating: Good 4 or Soft 5
Rail position: 12m
Race 1 12:39 Argonaut Handicap (1,650m) - Bet with TABtouch
1 MIRACLE MAN was too far off the speed over 1,300m at Belmont Park 11 days ago before posting the second fastest final furlong. William Pike, who rode him to victory over 1,300m at Belmont Park four weeks ago, reunites with the gelding.
2 ABDICATOR broke his maiden over 1,400m at Pinjarra Park six days ago after back-to-back seconds either side of his 113-day spell. He boasts favourable head to heads versus Queally and Mekong Den, which he reopposes today.
3 HE'S A PARKER enjoyed the run of the race over 1,700m at Belmont Park 14 days ago but he found less than most of his seven rivals and ended up four lengths off the winner despite leading a race run at a pedestrian tempo.
4 ROCK OR BUST stunned punters over 1,200m at Ascot Racecourse in February but she has been consistently poor in her eight subsequent races, including failing to beat any galloper in her two Belmont Park appearances this preparation.
5 QUEALLY is a lightly raced filly which is open to improvement but William Pike elects to ride Miracle Man instead - they had clashed in a Lark Hill barrier trial - and she is not weighted to turn the tables on Abdicator from their real race.
6 MEKONG DEN ran on OK over 1,700m at Belmont Park two weeks ago but she has several lengths to find on Abdicator from their 1,303m Pinjarra Park clash prior to that and she may want farther than 1,650m to break through for a win.
Selections: 1-2-6-3
Race 2 1:14 Get The TABtouch Maiden (1,300m) - Bet with TABtouch
1 QUICK REFLECTS returns from 186 days away from competitive action as a gelding. He has had two barrier trials since joining Nakita Barber from James Cummings and he will need improve on what he did in the east to feature.
2 PRINCE HAL debuted over 1,200m at Belmont Park 11 days ago, never in contention and losing ground in the latter stages. Craig Staples has elected to partner Time On My Side so his wife, Lisa, takes over on the gelding.
3 OUTTATHAWAY has been beaten 7.4 lengths in a Belmont Park barrier trial since finishing stone motherless of 14 over 1,300m at the same venue two weeks ago. He has not performed to the same level that he did in his first preparation.
4 GALAXY GREY will race without blinkers 14 days ago after he finished a well beaten 13th of 14 wearing shades over 1,300m at Belmont Park. He would need to improve to feature at the business of the race and he is unlikely to do that.
5 TESTA DE LAGO beat just two gallopers in his couple of races, both of which took place in December. He has had a couple of Belmont Park barrier trials in preparation for his reappearance, winning the latest when ridden vigorously.
6 JUST JUDE finished fifth of 13 over 1,300m at Northam 13 days ago when she had her first run since joining the stable of Nikki Davies from the yard of Brendon Fitzgerald. She would need to improve significantly on her first nine efforts.
7 STATE PROSECUTOR had been off the scene since finishing a close-up third behind Trackta over 1,400m at Belmont Park 10 weeks ago. His full siblings, Newsworthy and Major Attraction, have not done anything special on the track.
8 TIME ON MY SIDE meets State Prosecutor at the same weights as when she was 2.4 lengths inferior to the son of More Than Ready over 1,400m at Belmont Park in June. However, she may have a fitness edge today and she maps as the leader.
9 SEPTEMBER ROSE makes her debut after four Belmont Park barrier trials - two of them in December, one in July and one nine days ago - in which she did not suggest she will be making a winning start to her career.
Selections: 7-8-5-2
Race 3 1:49 Fifth Leg Handicap (1,300m) - Bet with TABtouch
1 ATHLETE has had the ultimate gear change - a gelding operation - since his underwhelming first preparation. He was third of 10 in a Belmont Park barrier trial over 1,000m nine days ago but he has not raced competitively since March.
2 ROYAL STRATA was fourth in the WA Sires' Produce Stakes over 1,400m at Ascot Racecourse before going for his 138-day spell but that Group Three race was slowly run and he was probably flattered by his proximity to the placegetters.
3 SUPERIOR SMILE gets blinkers 13 days after he finished fifth of 10 over 1,000m at Northam in what was his first run this preparation and second run ever. He is open to improvement because of his gear change and lack of exposed form.
4 THE BIG SHOW finally debuts following half a dozen barrier trials at either Lark Hill or Belmont Park between November and June. William Pike rode him in the second of those six trials and he is an eye-catching booking by Darren McAuliffe.
5 THE TOTE CRUSHER is back from 112 days away from competitive action. He beat all bar Massagi on his debut over 1,400m at Ascot Racecourse in May - Massagi is one of Darren McAuliffe's gallopers so DMc knows the form line.
6 FOXY PRINCESS will race in blinkers 18 days after disappointing on her first appearance since switching stables from Simon Foster to Neville Parker. Each of her last two runs have been a lot worse than what she produced in the autumn.
7 COUNTESS NATASHA contested the WA Sires' Produce Stakes over 1,400m at Ascot Racecourse in April but that Group Three contest was too rich for her even though Debellatio under Daniel Staeck took the field along at a modest pace.
8 THREADS OF IVEY drops from Saturday class to midweek grade after running quite well behind the likes of Dainty Pat and Turbo Power over 1,200m and 1,300m respectively at Belmont Park this month. He will race in winkers today.
9 INFINITE BEAUTY produced a new personal best rating when fourth of 13th behind Watto's Fury over 1,200m at Belmont Park two weeks ago but she may need to find another couple of lengths to get the chocolates third up.
Selections: 4-5-2-8
Race 4 2:24 Perth Racing Young Membership Handicap (1,200m) - Bet with TABtouch
1 PARADING placed in both the Magic Millions WA 3YO Trophy and the Rangeview Stud 3YO Classic last season. He led all the way to win over 1,200m at Belmont Park four weeks ago before bombing the start over 1,203m at Pinjarra Park.
2 VICTORIOUS LAD has had issues, hence why he once spent 442 days away from a proper race. He made a winning reappearance over 1,200m at Belmont Park two weeks ago and his stablemate, Jupiter Rising, advertised the form on Saturday.
3 AMALIEMOO won a couple of races in her first preparation but neither was below 1,400m and her full sibling, Tuff Bickie, has contested events up to 2,800, winning over only 1,600m. She has had two recent Lark Hill barrier trials.
4 RED NOIRE returns from a seven-week freshen up following her seventh of 14 over 1,300m at Belmont Park. Stepping back in trip to 1,200m is a positive for her but her overall speed ratings are nothing about which to write home.
5 THREESUN finished a long way behind, among others, Miss Lawrance over 1,200m at Belmont Park two weeks ago and she is not weighted to turn the tables today. Neither of her two wins rated well according to the clock.
6 TOMOHAWK made a sound return five week ago, finishing third of 11 behind Sovereign Hall over 1,000m at Belmont Park. His personal best was registered over 1,100m so he should improve second up as he gets over more ground.
7 MISS LAWRANCE gets blinkers so she may go to the front from her inside gate under Shelby Colgate. Steve Wolfe's stable apprentice partnered the mare to her most recent victory, which occurred over 1,100m at Mount Barker in November.
8 MONGOLIAN WARLORD is the other Steve Wolfe-trained runner in today's race. He was fourth of nine over 1,300m at Northam 13 days ago. The stable electing to claim on Miss Lawrance and the speed map may be negatives for the gelding.
9 BALI KING PRAWN was close to his personal best rating last time out over 1,000m at Belmont Park but that is not saying a great deal because he has not done much in any of his five competitive outings on metropolitan tracks.
10 SO CUTE ran a decent speed figure over today's course and distance this time last year but she has been plain in most of her races, including when seventh of 10 over 1,203m at Pinjarra Park - Parading beat her despite missing the kick.
Selections: 1-2-7-6
Race 5 3:02 Penfolds Handicap (2,000m) - Bet with TABtouch
1 BUSTER'S SHADOW is not bred to excel over 2,000m and he was not all that strong 13 days ago when ninth of 10 in a shorter Northam race in which the tempo was sedate. He won over 1,400m at Belmont Park on a Saturday in May.
2 HE'S DUNNA RUNNA debuted over 1,600m at Ascot Racecourse in March so it is clear Rob Moore views him as a stayer. He broke his maiden over 2,316m at Pinjarra Park 20 days ago when a well supported favourite in the Peel.
3 MUSICAL ART gets the assistance of William Pike for the first time, two weeks after Jarrad Noske steered him to a third of 12th over 2,100m at Belmont Park. He was no match for Burger Time that day but there is no Burger Time today.
4 MY FAIR BEAUTY was the fastest finisher over 1,600m at Northam 13 days ago when she left it too late to reel in Black Freda and Ryamar. Her one win from 17 starts was over 2,000m at Pinjarra Park under her regular pilot, Jason Whiting.
5 A NIGHT IN BANGKOK is related to Dark Musket, which was third in the 2015 Kingston Town Classic won by Perfect Reflection. Brett Pope steps her up to 2,000m six days after being unplaced over 1,600m at Pinjarra Park.
6 AMALFI LASS goes from 1,400m to 2,000m, which is a concern because she produces her best speed rating over the former during her last preparation. She is bred to want upwards of 1,600m but she is yet to conform to her pedigree.
7 ASIAN PEARL was sixth of seven over 1,600m at Pinjarra Park six days ago and it is difficult to see her turning the tables on A Night In Bangkok, let alone beating some of the other gallopers which she faces over 2,000m at Belmont Park today.
8 TRIPLE EXPRESS has posted consecutive seconds since returning from 88 days off. She rates closely to Musical Art but today's barrier draw and jockey bookings mean she may struggle to beat William Pike's mount for the second time.
9 THE TEMPTRESS finished stone motherless of 12 over 2,100m at Belmont Park two weeks ago and there is nothing in the form book to suggest she will turn the tables on Triple Express and Musical Art from their recent encounter.
10 FREEZ'EMOFF made a winning debut over 1,600m at Northam 13 days ago but the runner-up in that race, Happy Sanday, was a losing favourite in a Belmont Park maiden on Saturday. She warrants respect but she is not the top pick.
11 AQUAJINSKY has gone 692 days without a win and she is not racing sufficiently well to suggest a second victory is on the cards. She has been beaten by at least seven lengths in each of her three races since commencing her latest preparation.
12 EXPLOSIVE QUEEN ran a good speed figure on the last occasion she struck a dry Belmont Park track over a staying trip, doing so when sixth of 16 behind Danehill's Daughter over 2,100m in June. However, she is not in great form.
Selections: 3-4-8-10
Race 6 3:40 Glenroy Chaff Handicap (1,000m) - Bet with TABtouch
1 THE ANAESTHETIST has made the top three in each of his five races this time in work, including when third of 11 over 1,000m at Belmont Park two weeks ago. He maps nicely as a swooper from midfield in a race featuring a lot of leaders.
2 BANK ON BUZZ returns without a barrier trial 228 days after finishing stone motherless of 10 over 1,000m at Ascot Racecourse. He is yet to register a speed rating within several lengths of his highest rated opponents today.
3 JUST A FLUKE has done enough on the clock to rate highly in this grade but he has drawn one of the outside gates and, therefore, he is likely to have to cover extra ground because of how the speed map looks. A tongue tie goes on today.
4 OUTSTRETCH beat Runs To Paradise narrowly over 1,000m at Pinjarra Park 20 days ago. Fred Kersley's three-kilogram claim makes him well weighted on head to heads but it is a worry as to where the gelding will find himself in transit.
5 COUNT TOMOZ OFF has not won since saluting the judge on debut over 1,000m at Belmont Park. His late sectionals suggest he is better suited to five furlongs than extended sprint trips and he maps well. He will compete without visors today.
6 GUNS OF NAVARONE beat all bar On The Turps over today's course and distance seven days ago but he was 2.8 lengths behind the winner. That was not the strongest midweek race so he may need to improve to feature in this one.
7 ROMAN SKYLAB was third of 10 over 1,000m at Pinjarra Park 20 days ago. He has had 20 cracks at breaking his maiden and, according to the clock, his peak performance was over 1,400m so five furlongs may not be his ideal distance.
8 CURIOUS MISS returns after 123 days off without a barrier trial. She won over 1,000m on her last start but that was a $6,000 Mt Magnet maiden. She has not made a competitive appearance at a city venue and her speed ratings are poor.
9 SOVEREIGNTY LADY has been kept until drawing an inside gate. She has not raced since finishing second of 14 over 1,000m at Pinjarra Park 48 days ago. Neither of her performances has rated highly but she may improve in the city.
10 EQUITY FREE has had two runs for Simon Miller since moving the move from Shea Eden's stable in Victoria. Her ratings are a little bit below the likely level required to win today's race but she gets in light with Fiona Bell riding her again.
11 CARESS YOUR SOUL broke through at the fifth time of asking when winning over 1,000m at Northam 13 days ago. She has had three races in the city but she needed to leave the metropolitan to win a maiden and today's event is tougher.
12 VIRTUOSA was fourth of six in a Belmont Park barrier trial nine days ago in preparation for her first race since January. She went close over 1,000m at Belmont Park in July 2016 but that was at the end of her first campaign.Selections: 5-1-3-9
Race 7 4:20 Crown Towers Handicap (1,400m) - Bet with TABtouch
1 NEW TIME has raced 92 times for 12 wins, the latest of which was 844 days ago. The 10-year-old gelding was second of 13 over 1,200m at Belmont Park two weeks ago when he jumped from a similarly inconvenient gate.
2 COME ON BOARD has had a 60-day freshen up since finishing third of 10 over 1,600m at Belmont Park. His peak ratings are over around one mile so 1,400m without a run since Saturday 1 July means he does not rate a winning chance.
3 PHANTOM CHOICE finished stone motherless of nine over 1,300m at Belmont Park 25 days ago after previously winning over 1,200m at Kalgoorlie. His win in the Goldfields was his best result for quite some time so he is hard to fancy.
4 LORD HATRAS is totally out of form. Fourteen days ago he did not beat any of his 12 opponents over 1,200m at Belmont Park and you have to back to September for the last time that he threatened to win his 11th race.
5 NICCATRICE has been uncompetitive on each of his last two visits to the city from Mark Bairstow's yard. He was eighth of nine over 1,400m at Kalgoorlie 24 days ago and before that he ran poorly over 1,000m at Belmont Park.
6 GENERAL HUSSON receives the help of William Pike for the first time in his career. He made a satisfactory return over 1,200m at Belmont Park 18 days ago, he gets some gear changes and he steps up to a more suitable trip of 1,400m.
7 DUSHA ZACHISTKI has been scratched.
8 PORTONIAN is hard to like based on his recent performances, the most recent of which saw him finish eighth of 11 over 1,400m at Kalgoorlie 10 days ago. His latest victory occurred over 1,300m at Mount Barker in much weaker company.
9 BOXONLUCY is seeking a hat-trick of wins after posting two 1,400m victories at Belmont Park already this month. She is up in a grade again today and she rates as one of the obvious chances under her regular jockey, Shaun McGruddy.
10 BRADFORD BADBOY did not impress on his first competitive outing since April 2016 when finishing last but one over 1,400m at Belmont Park two weeks ago. He is likely to need some more runs before being considered as punting proposition.
11 BEVEL may be an improver at long odds. William Pike rode him in four of his last six races so the Wizard believes he possesses some ability, he will carry just 52.5 kilograms after Randy Tan's claim and he is likely to get back on a dry track.
12 UNIVERSAL SCENE will back up seven days after being a long way behind On The Turps over 1,000m at Belmont Park. None of his recent runs have had a lot of merit and it has been 1,147 days since he got the chocolates.
Selections: 6-9-11-1
Race 8 5:00 Amelia Park Lamb Handicap (1,650m) - Bet with TABtouch
1 SILVER PLATED is a talented but injury-prone 11-year-old gelding which was good on his return over 1,200m at Belmont Park two weeks ago. That was his first competitive run for 350 days and he rates as a chance even with his big weight.
2 BATTLE TORQUE steps up in distance again following his fourth of 11 over 1,400m at Belmont Park two weeks ago. His personal best occurred over 1,800m so he may be worth risking in midweek grade until he gets out to that distance.
3 CELTIC WIZARD has had 119 days off since going back to back over 1,400m and 1,600m at Ascot Racecourse in late autumn. He returns without a barrier trial but Fred Kersley's charges usually turn up ready to go first up in any weather.
4 GOLD INVADER will back up six days after finishing last one but one over 1,400m at Pinjarra Park. His best days appear to be behind him and he did not triumph at a metropolitan venue even when he was recording his peak ratings.
5 O'REILLY'S CRUMPET has had five weeks to recover from disappointing at short odds over 2,200m at Belmont Park. He has changed stables from Adam Durrant to Terry Brennan in the interim so punters who back him are taking him on trust.
6 SING FOUR US DAN was third of 11 over 1,400m at Belmont Park two weeks ago and prior to that he took out a 1,300m Northam race. Ellie Cockram was aboard him at Northam and she reunites with the six-year-old gelding today.
7 STARKLE ran a new personal bests two starts back over 1,650m at Belmont Park before being a bit flat in a slowly run race over 1,600m at Northam. He may be worth another chance because sometimes poor efforts follow new peaks.
8 TAKE IT LIKE A MAN found Saturday class a bit too much for him but today's race should be more to his liking. He ran his best-ever numbers over 1,650m at Belmont Park two starts ago and Daniel Staeck seems to get on well with him.
9 BIG RED COSTA has been flat as a tack late on in each of his four races since getting the job done over 1,700m at Belmont Park in June. His most recent win did not rate highly on the clock and he may want a bit farther than 1,650m.
10 CALIBRA was respectable in her first run for Alan Mathews since joining his yard from that of Mick Price in Victoria. She was third of 11 over 1,400m at Belmont Park two weeks ago but all of her best results have been on bogs.
11 TORTE CAPRESE won over 1,800m at Ascot Racecourse in December but she has not gone close to winning any of her subsequent half a dozen races and her ratings suggest she would prefer at least one more furlong than today's trip.
12 CHANCERY is hard to like on his speed ratings and last time out he finished stone motherless of nine over 1,603m at Pinjarra Park. He has not won since September 2014 and that victory was over 1,350m at Toodyay.
13 REGAL GOSSIP has been scratched.
14 SWIFTLY has not lived up to her name since passing the post first over 1,300m at Northam in July 2016. She was sixth of nine over 1,300m at Northam 13 days ago but her late sectionals suggest stepping up to 1,650m is not a bad thing.
