REBELLIONAIRE (yellow and red sleeves, red cap) just missing out to DAINTY PAT (club colours, black cap) at Belmont Park on Saturday 5 August 2017.

Key runners: Belmont Park – Wednesday 23 August

Expected weather: Partly cloudy 20 degrees Celsius

Expected track rating: Soft 5

Rail position: 9m

Race 1 1:14 TABtouch Maiden (1,650m) - Bet with TABtouch

1 ARMOURER got within 0.4 lengths of a maiden win at Kalgoorlie three starts ago but that was over 1,400m and that may be his best trip. His two city runs have resulted in finishing seventh of 14 and ninth of 14, both at Ascot Racecourse.

2 TOW ROPE has been in the market on each of his three cracks at a maiden this preparation and he went close to breaking through at Northam three starts ago. Jarrad Noske sticks with him but he goes up in distance from 1,200m to 1,650m.

3 HAPPY SANDAY was well backed at Northam six days ago when his last 200m sectional time indicated he ran out of condition. Fourth up and fitter again today, both of his siblings to race won over shorter and longer trips than 1,650m.

4 FLYIN' TRADIE went closest to breaking his maiden three starts ago when he raced over 1,600m at Kalgoorlie. It is worth forgiving his last couple of runs over 1,200m because he is bred to be a miler but his 1,600m ratings are not great.

5 SNOWY RIVER MEN has finished sixth in each of his last four races, the latest of which was over 1,300m at Belmont Park seven days ago. His siblings won over 1,000m to 1,400m but he is a son of Trade Fair so he may get a bit farther.

6 TYSON FIGHT may be an omen bet as the world prepares to see Mayweather versus McGregor. He faded late on his return over 1,400m three weeks ago in what was a decent maiden and his siblings have won over ground in wet going.

7 TOUCH THE CLOUDS reappears seven days after finishing 5.3 lengths behind Magic Mint in last Wednesday's equivalent race. She has almost four lengths to make up on Snowy River Men at the same weights so she is opposable second up.

8 DANISH GEM has yet to place in her eight starts and today marks her debut on a metropolitan track. She beat only one galloper home in the Northam maiden in which Happy Sanday finished second, more than seven lengths separating them.

9 DISCO JO gets a gear change with the winkers coming off but he will have to improve out of sight to feature in the finish today after being well beaten on each of his three starts, including ending up 12 lengths being the winner last time out.

Selections: 3-6-5-2

Race 2 1:49 Jim Duffy 80th Birthday Maiden (1,400m) - Bet with TABtouch

1 DARK PROSPECT beat subsequent two-time winner Quest To Venus on debut and then ran into a smart one, Ragnar's Saga, which put it all together. Neville Parnham's stable is flying and his charge stays at 1,400m but drops in class.

2 LORENTINIO placed in each of his four races last preparation but he has been out of the frame second time in, perhaps struggling on rain-affected tracks. He is a query runner but he may be waiting for a dry surface to produce his best form.

3 LOOKING GREAT regains the services of William Pike after Mitchell Pateman rode him to victory over 1,403m at Pinjarra Park 13 days ago. It is hard to go from a provincial maiden to a city class one but he does have The Wizard to steer him.

4 MYTHICAL SAGA trialled poorly and then made a poor competitive return when ninth of 11 over 1,300m at Pinjarra Park. He has been comprehensively beaten in each of his four races since getting up narrowly in a 1,200m Bunbury maiden.

5 ABSOLUTE MAGIC returns from 144 days off the track, albeit following a Belmont Park barrier trial more than two weeks ago. She drops in class and trip having run in the Ascot 1,000 Guineas, the Natasha Stakes and the WA Oaks in the autumn.

6 ASPEN STAR won a Belmont Park barrier trial on 7 August in preparation for his first run since transferring from James Cummings to Simon Miller. An intriguing runner, he won a moderately run race over 1,600m at Gosford in October.

7 OORAH won a 1,500m York maiden in November and, even though Troy Turner keeps the faith partnering her for 10th race in a row, she is hard to like based on her city efforts, the latest of which was a 6th of 14 over 1,650m at Belmont Park.

8 DEMI GO ROUND was third of nine over 1,403m at Pinjarra Park 13 days ago. Lucy Warwick sticks with her but she boasts a poor head-to-head record against Oorah based on their performances over 1,400m at Belmont Park last month.

9 JUAN SHOT has had 15 shots at glory, getting the chocolates only once and that was over 1,500m at Pinjarra Park in December. She is second up after being beaten by more than 10 lengths over 1,100m at Northam six days ago.

10 THE GIRL OF VASSE won a 1,200m Pinjarra Park maiden by 2.8 lengths 12 months ago but she has been beaten by at least five lengths in each of her subsequent six races and she goes up in trip from 1,000m to 1,400m.

Selections: 1-6-2-5

Race 3 2:24 2017 Ascot Racing Carnival - Book Now Handicap (1,200m) - Bet with TABtouch

1 EPIC GREY has run really well on each of his three starts, overcoming lameness to finish second on debut, making light of traffic problems to break his maiden second up and just failing to catch jump-and-run sprinter Saturia 11 days ago.

2 LAUFEY has been scratched.

3 REBELLIONAIRE debuted in a Saturday race 18 days ago, getting run down by Dainty Pat over 1,200m at Belmont Park. He hails from a smart family including Rebel King and Rebelson and he is likely to improve on his second start.

4 INVISIBLE PRO has placed on each of his two starts, including when second on debut behind Perfect Jewel over 1,200m at Belmont Park last month, but others make more appeal in what is a hot little race for a midweek winter contest.

5 LONGANO finished behind Epic Grey, Paradise Square and Sayat on debut over 1,000m at Belmont Park 11 days ago and the weight swings are insufficient even though he has managed to draw gate one for the second race in a row.

6 PARADISE SQUARE made a good debut in finishing just 0.4 lengths behind The Shoe over 1,200m at Pinjarra Park in January. He was sound on his return and he meets Epic Grey two kilograms better but he was losing ground late in their clash.

7 PATROCITY has not raced for 146 days and he wrapped up his preparation for his second campaign with a last of six in a Belmont Park barrier trial more than two weeks ago. He is tough to fancy based on his exposed trials and races.

8 SAYAT debuted over 1,000m at Belmont Park 11 days ago, running out of gas late on to finish behind Epic Grey and Paradise Square but ahead of Longano. He will need to improve a lot to turn the tables on Epic Grey and Paradise Square.

9 ACONITE debuted over 1,303m at Pinjarra Park 13 days ago, finishing 1.6 lengths behind Laufey, which has been scratched from today's contest. She gets a new jockey with Mitchell Pateman taking over from Skye Bogenhuber.

10 OUR GIRL MARLI debuts following five barrier trials, the latest of which saw her finish 5.5 lengths behind I Wonder over 950m at Lark Hill nine days ago. Her full brother, Pump Up The Volume, has been well beaten on each of his two starts.

11 PRIVATE DANCER cost $100,000 at last year's Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale. She has looked OK in each of her three barrier trials and four of her six siblings to reach the racetrack have found their way to the winner's circle.

Selections: 1-3-6-11

Race 4 3:02 Heineken 3 Handicap (1,200m) - Bet with TABtouch

1 PLAY FOR PLEASURE made a triumphant return over 1,000m at Belmont Park under Tayla Stone, who keeps the ride on the son of Foreplay and More Addictive. He has poor head to heads versus Sirius Prospect and Mama Bear, though.

2 STELLAR IGNITION gets the blinkers as he attempts to make it three wins on the spin either side of a 21-week spell. He reappears over 1,200m having prevailed over 1,400m at Pinjarra Park and 1,600m at Ascot Racecourse in March.

3 FAULTY has been poor on each of his three starts since posting his second career victory, a 0.5-length win over 1,200m at Pinjarra Park in June. He did triumph over 1,200m at Ascot Racecourse in February but the race rated badly.

4 NIGHT BEAT posted good speed figures in each of his three races of his debut campaign, beating Victorious Lad in a 1,200 Ascot Racecourse maiden before placing behind Blackline and One Short. He trialled better than Stellar Ignition.

5 SIRIUS PROSPECT returns after 157 days away from competitive action. He has not one but two unfavourable head to heads against Faulty so he is hard to like from a wide gate - he finished last but one when William Pike rode him previously.

6 SIR SNUGALOT is the second Simon Miller-trained runner in the race. Fiona Bell stays aboard him after she partnered him to a 1.1-length third over 1,200m at Belmont Park seven days ago in which he tried to make every post a winner.

7 DETENTE is back following a 158-day spell, a break she needed after being beaten 8.5 lengths behind Galaxy Star over 1,400m at Ascot Racecourse in March. She has won three times but each of her victories have rated poorly.

8 STEP RIGHT UP has won three times over 1,400m so, returning to the racetrack for the first time since finishing last but one over 1,600m at Ascot Racecourse in March, he is likely to need the run as he works his way up in distance over time.

9 SUPPOSITION has celebrated victory for 809 days and that was when he beat Agachar Cruz in a photo finish over 1,000m at Belmont Park. He keeps finding at least one galloper too good for him and he is yet to triumph beyond 1,000m.

10 HURRICANE JACK backs up quickly after finishing third of nine behind Great Again, which had won a Saturday maiden at Belmont Park on his previous start, over 1,300m at Northam. He had no chance from his wide gate last time in town.

11 CORRESPONDENT won a Highway Handicap in New South Wales before making the move to Western Australia last year and he has been disappointing on this side of the country, not going close to a win before his 240-day spell.

12 MAMA BEAR has won two of her 15 starts but her victories occurred over 1,300m at Kalgoorlie and the same trip at Northam. She was sixth of nine over 1,100m at Northam when she reappeared under Patrick Carbery 20 days ago.

Selections: 4-2-9-1

Race 5 3:40 Perth Racing Memberships Handicap (1,000m) - Bet with TABtouch

1 GUNS OF NAVARONE has a crack at 1,000m for the first time. He broke his maiden over 1,200m at Pinjarra Park in June before being well beaten over the same course and distance and then failing over 1,100m at Kalgoorlie.

2 MENIN ROAD is first up having not raced since May. He has had two barrier trials in preparation for his return but he was never in the hunt in each of his two 1,000m races earlier this year after performing adequately in his first campaign.

3 ON THE TURPS raced ungenerously when in the market at Belmont Park seven days ago, ending up a six-length eighth of 11 behind I Am Incredible over 1,000m. He has drawn another gate today but you back him on trust.

4 MISS PLANET joined Tom Widdeson's stable from that of Team Williams and made a winning start for her new trainer over 1,000m at Pinjarra Park, an effort she followed with a sixth of 11 behind Chin Park over 1,000m at Belmont Park.

5 REGALMAN will race in blinkers for the first time but he may need more than a gear change to make an impression on his first appearance in the city after not getting close to a win at Bunbury, Pinjarra Park or Kalgoorlie this year.

6 SOVEREIGNTY LADY has not put up good speed figures in either of her two 1,000m runs at Pinjarra Park but she may be better than her raw numbers suggest. She does, however, face the challenge of racing from a wide gate.

7 CONICAL PEAK pairs up with William Pike for the first time since the champion jockey rode her to a Lark Hill barrier trial win in January. She is a query runner, particularly if The Wizard opts to go forward - her best numbers are on speed.

8 EQUITY FREE is set for her second run in Western Australia after joining Simon Miller from Shea Eden. Nothing she did in Victoria was earthshattering and she was only a three-length fifth of 11 on her WA bow over 1,000m at Pinjarra Park.

9 BOYZONE backs up six days after being beaten by more than 10 lengths over 1,100m at Northam. Lucy Warwick takes over from Joseph Azzopardi and the four-year-old gelding is hard to like on his head to head versus Habenera.

10 HABENERA was only marginally better than Boyzone over 1,100m at Northam six days ago. Jason Brown jumps off her with the father and son team of Robert and Todd Harvey engaging apprentice jockey Kate Fitzgerald for today's race.

11 STOLART is Jason Brown's mount and his decision to stick with the lightly raced filly is a decent pointer. She was bumped early and raced keenly on her debut six weeks ago. It would be no surprise to see her improve markedly second up.

12 UNIVERSAL SCENE has been triple-digit odds on each of his last four starts, the latest of which resulted in a seven-length 10th of 11 over 1,200m at Belmont Park seven days ago. He is unlikely to make it two wins from 33 races.

Selections: 11-7-4-6

Race 6 4:20 D'Orsogna Handicap (1,650m) - Bet with TABtouch

1 WITNESS IN COURT was, according to the clock, the star of the Pinjarra Park meeting on 10 August, bouncing back from peaking on his run over 1,600m at Belmont Park to post a 2.8-length win on a slightly less rain-affected surface.

2 BACK TO A WALK has not won for 879 days, the eight-year-old gelding's last success occurring over 1,400m at Ascot Racecourse in March 2015. He had almost one year off after that victory and not much has gone right since.

3 SLICK TALKER won over 2,200m at Ascot Racecourse in April 2016 but he has failed to salute the judge in any of his 11 runs since, the latest of which was a 7.5-length nine of 13th over 1,400m at Belmont Park 11 days ago.

4 BELLA'S IDOL has been a model consistency for the Pearce brothers, Daniel and Ben, this preparation, finishing third, first, second, second and second over trips ranging from 1,200m to 1,700m. Peter Hall is back from Broome to ride her.

5 SONNEN has won a Lark Hill barrier trial ahead of his return from a 116-day spell. He has tasted success four times in his 27 starts but never below 2,000m, although he did place third over 1,600m at Ascot Racecourse first up in February.

6 PRENTICE has had a short freshen since finishing last but one over 1,600m at Belmont Park. That was in a much harder race on a Saturday but he was even more plain in a midweek contest prior to that so he needs to up his game.

7 REEF KEEPER is set for his first run since May and Daniel O'Connor has booked William Pike to ride the four-year-old gelding which broke through over 2,000m at Bunbury second up in his last preparation. He returns without a barrier trial.

8 STREET BANDIT and Lucy Warwick team up for the second time in 10 days as the seven-year-old gelding and his female jockey attempt to improve on their two-length fourth of eight over 1,760m at Kalgoorlie. This is a tougher again.

9 THE ESCAPE PLAN made a winning reappearance over 1,403m on the same Pinjarra Park card as Witness In Court impressed 13 days ago. She comes from a family of winners and the daughter of Blackfriars should relish stepping up in trip.

10 BLACK LILLY ran on Saturday at Belmont Park, finishing a 3.5-length eighth of 11 behind Quest To Venus over 1,400m. It would be a shock if Graeme Evans decided to run the six-year-old mare on such a quick turnaround.

11 VALMONT meets Witness In Court slightly better at the weights than when they clashed over 1,603m at Pinjarra Park 13 days ago but the swing is nowhere near enough to fancy the ride of Lisa Staples to turn the tables on the top weight.

Selections: 1-9-4-7

Race 7 5:00 Yellowglen Handicap (2,000m) - Bet with TABtouch

1 LET'S TWIST gets out to 2,000m, the distance over which she registered her most recent win when she fought off Regal Rogue to prevail at Pinjarra Park in January. She is a promsing stayer for the brothers, Daniel and Ben Pearce.

2 RYAMAR went close over 1,600m at Northam six days ago, going down by 0.5 lengths behind Black Freda. His half sibling, Almaleo, won up to 2,024m so the trip should be within his compass as he attempts to go one better than last week.

3 REGAL ROGUE was plain behind Let's Twist and Khawaja over 1,650m at Belmont Park 21 days ago and she meets one of those gallopers, Khawaja, worse at the weights today. Neither of her two victories has been beyond 1,722m.

4 FRIARBIRD is another runner from the Team Pearce yard. She was OK on her reappearance after 11 months away from competitive action, running on to finish a 6.4-length fifth of nine behind Witness In Court over 1,650m at Pinjarra Park.

5 FLIGHT OF FANCY has the assistance of William Pike for the first time on what will be her 25th start. She was a well beaten 10th of 13 over 1,650m at Belmont Park three weeks ago and she has gone 575 days since experiencing victory.

6 TOMMI TOOCAN has had a Lark Hill barrier trial since being well beaten behind Fille De Merit over 1,650m at Belmont Park three weeks ago. Maddison Brown's only previous assignment with him resulted in a Pinjarra Park barrier trial win.

7 BID RED COSTA backs up seven days after going backwards in the final stages of the 1,400m Belmont Park race that Ragnar's Saga won at short odds. That was, however, a marked improvement on his run two starts ago behind Fille De Merit.

8 BORN BLUE competed over 2,200m at Northam six days ago and he will need to improve significantly upon that effort behind Dusty Storm to feature in today's finish. His last win was over 2,100m on Winterbottom Stakes Day last year.

9 CAMBO beat only one galloper over 1,603m at Pinjarra Park 13 days ago and he was prominent in the market for that race. He has won two races but both of them took place at Narrogin over 1,720m so he is opposable in this company.

10 EMPYREUS is back for more seven days after finishing last of 11 over 1,400m at Belmont Park under Joseph Azzopardi. Matthieu Autier picks up the ride with Azzopardi electing to partner Let's Twist, a decision that makes a lot of sense.

11 KHAWAJA had an easy time once out of contention over 2,200m at Northam six days ago. He has drawn another wide gate and he is not weighted to turn the tables on Let's Twist from earlier this month but he is better than his last run.

12 DIPLOMAT EXPRESS was one of many gallopers which Burger Time fried over 2,100m at Belmont Park seven days ago. He gets a 6.5-kilogram weight pull on Let's Twist from when they met over 1,800m at Ascot Racecourse in December.

13 AQUAJINSKY has not shone in any of her three runs since returning from more than 12 months away from competitive action so it would require quite a leap of faith to back her to register her second win on what will be her 23rd start.
