The Wednesday Wrap: Belmont - Wednesday 19 July

Race 1 - 12:22pm Salinger Handicap (1400 Metres)

THE WINNER

Enticing Star won as expected but the victory came with some nervous moments as the hype filly got on to heels of Sondheim which stunted her momentum. She still managed to draw away to win comfortably by 3.25 lengths.

THE GOOD

Boxonlucy did just that and boxed on well to hold on to second despite being well beaten. Not bad for a filly which started at $61 in betting.

THE BAD

They all look bad when they come up against smart opposition like this….

FASTEST LAST 600M

Enticing Star – 34.39

Race 2 - 12:57pm King's Troop At Taunton Vale Maiden (1400 Metres)

THE WINNER

Rogan Scent justified the betting plunge to win comfortably after enjoying the run of the race behind the speed. With the maiden out of the way, the smart Rogano filly can now go on to scale greater heights.

THE GOOD

Burning Magic did her normal thing and ran on strongly without winning. She finished second and was beaten 1.25 lengths.

THE BAD

Noir De Rue jumped well but failed to settle in the run before finishing third. He will be better with clear air in running and a less checkered passage.

FASTEST LAST 600M

Burning Magic – 35.86

Race 3 - 1:34pm Budget Car & Truck Rental Plate (1700 Metres)

THE WINNER

Honorfic streaked down the outside of the track to win after sitting three-wide without cover at the rear of the field. It was a big effort to get past Rojo Calor and Honorfic is one to follow over further.

THE GOOD

Rojo Calor didn’t lose any admirers despite being a beaten favourite. He still has some racing manners to iron out but he will turn into a nice stayer.

THE BAD

Uncle Con enjoyed the box seat in transit behind the speed but failed to finish off. He only battled away for fourth and was beaten 2.25 lengths.

FASTEST LAST 600M

Rojo Calor – 35.23

Race 4 - 2:12pm Get The Tabtouch Plate (1300 Metres)

THE WINNER

First starter Aflica’s Girl was given a lovely run by Skye Bogenhuber along the rail before using the cutaway to good use in the straight. The daughter by War Chant hit the lead at the 125m mark and managed to just hold off Romantic Rogue.

THE GOOD

The money came for Romantic Rogue at long odds and was backed into $18 on course. She sprinted home well right along the inside of the cutaway but couldn’t manage to grab the winner.

THE BAD

$1.55 favourite Burning Pride led and was collared in the straight. She will get better over further but punters felt the pinch.

FASTEST LAST 600M

Romantic Rogue – 36.06

Race 5 - 2:47pm Kirin Megumi Handicap (1700 Metres)

THE WINNER

Just Elated was given another peach of a ride by Lisa Staples. He handled the soft track last start when beating Rogan Scent which came out and won race two today so the form stacked up and the six-year-old handles the going.

THE GOOD

Bella’s Idol led into a strong headwind down the back straight and managed to stick on well for second and was beaten only 0.5 lengths.

THE BAD

Outer Detention was $4.20 out to $11 in betting and ran accordingly. He finished last and never gave a yelp in the run.

FASTEST LAST 600M

Just Elated – 35.83

Race 6 - 3:25pm David Grays Aglink Handicap (1200 Metres)

THE WINNER

A massive son of Trade Fair, Gunnago got the run of the race behind leader Tiger Red before rider Mitch Pateman released the breaks in the straight to sprint and win handily against a pretty weak field.

THE GOOD

Invincible Warrior showed that he is heading in the right direction with a gritty runner-up effort after sitting outside of the speed. Supposition was second up with three weeks between runs and only usually runs well fresh but he put in a blinder to come from last to finish second.

THE BAD

The form of the field leading into the race was not inspiring but Gunnago is a nice enough horse. How far he gets is yet to be seen.

FASTEST LAST 600M

Supposition – 34.81

Race 7 - 4:05pm Morley Growers Market Handicap (1700 Metres)

THE WINNER

After racing somewhat unkindly in the early part of the race under Brad Parnham, Jaspara sat three-wide before finding a nice kick in the straight to win in dogged fashion.

THE GOOD

Middle Earth sat outside of the speed and gave a nice kick in the straight to only be beaten by a short neck. Dropping in class, Back To A Walk smashed the line from back in the field to run third and was also only beaten a short neck.

THE BAD

Cambo led but faded badly to finish last after a string of good performances.

FASTEST LAST 600M

Zuboyne – 36.54

Race 8 - 4:45pm Perth Racing Club Membership Handicap (1400 Metres)

THE WINNER

In a race where no one wanted to take up the running for the first 400m, apprentice Clint Johnston-Porter decided to take up the initiative at the 1000m mark on Bushfire Blonde. The three-year-old filly was joined by All Too Much but she got through the soft conditions nicely and gave a strong kick in the straight to win.

THE GOOD

Double Digit flew home from back in the field to run a slashing second. He is a very nice three-year-old on the up and will win more races.

THE BAD

The race was muddlingly run and the track conditions would not have helped many.

FASTEST LAST 600M

Double Digit – 35.50

PERFORMANCE OF THE DAY

12-year-old Zuboyne had his last career start in the Morley Growers Market Handicap (1700m) and ran a slashing race to finish sixth and recorded the fastest last 600m sectional of the race after settling last. Well done to trainer Neil Dellar and connections.
