Key Runners: WAROA Belmont Guineas Day - Saturday 24 June

Expected weather: Partly Cloudy 19°C

Expected track rating: GOOD4 – SOFT5

Rail position: True/inside

Race 1 - 11:53AM TABTOUCH PLATE (1300 METRES) – FULL FIELD

9. STREET FURY won comfortably last start with thanks to a composed ride from William Pike. Pike keeps the ride and the filly steps up to 1300m, which will suit going on the way she hit the line when winning. An exciting future awaits, especially considering she is prepared by the in-form Pearce stable.

5. OUQBA JACK hit the line like a horse with plenty of raw ability last start behind Street Fury. The better draw could see the son of Ouqba settle much closer in running and challenge the favourite to the line. He didn’t travel as sweetly as Steven Parnham would have liked him to, when fourth on Saturday 14 June, but he had the presence of a serious galloper.

3. LOB CITY jumped well last start behind Art Series and was asked to sit outside of Rubia Miss in the lead. She didn’t finish off as well as Aaron Mitchell would have hoped and reported that the filly races and hits the line better with cover in running. She will be getting cover here and will improve.

11. THUNDERSTRUT got caught three-wide around the bend last time out at Belmont behind all-the-way winner Cognac and battled on gamely to be beaten just over four lengths. The daughter of Choisir has drawn much better and can lead this race without much bother from barrier three. With Kate Fitzgerald’s claim, the filly only has to carry 51kg which should prove advantageous.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 9-5-3-11

SUGGESTED BET: 11. Thunderstrut – PLACE

Race 2 - 12:33PM D'ORSOGNA HANDICAP (1000 METRES) – FULL FIELD

5. MORE ACES returns after a short let up and a very sharp trial. From barrier two, hoop Jason Brown can either lead or take a sit right behind the leading group as there does look to be a lot of speed in the race. Back to Belmont is a big tick.

2. IT'S IT won very impressively last start in benchmark 78+ grade when leading from barrier to winning post. He registered a fast time that day on what was a firmer track than usual. The drop in class after winning in superior grade means he is allotted top weight but gets some relief with Randy Tan’s 2kg claim. Will be one of the leaders.

4. DELICATE MISS lines up for her sixth run this preparation and has finished top three in her last four. She makes her own luck out in front but will have company as there does look to be a lot of speed on paper. She can hold on for a top four spot.

6. BOMBS AWAY has had a spell since running down the track behind Man Booker when beaten just under five lengths. That preparation also featured a win where he beat the smart Red Paddy. The recent trial at Lark Hill was very fast when beating Karrakatta Plate winner Hobart Jones in 56.81. Watch for betting moves.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 5-2-4-6

SUGGESTED BET: 2. It’s It – WIN & 5. More Aces

Race 3 - 1:13PM AUTO CLASSIC BMW HANDICAP (1200 METRES) – FULL FIELD

4. KARLAKEE MISS did a mountain of work in the run last start when caught wide from the 800m mark but still managed to fight on to run second, beaten a quarter of a length by Luke’s Gold, which has since gone on to run well in benchmark 72+ grade behind War God. The form stacks up and this filly has more upside to come.

3. VEUVE DE VEGA returns from a spell on the back of a very fast trial on Monday 12 June at Belmont when clocking 59.64 over 1000 metres. With rain about and sting expected to come out of the ground, a forward showing first up would not surprise.

1. THE CELT continued his excellent record at Belmont last start, for in-form trainer Vaughn Sigley, when running second behind Lockroy in open age benchmark 66+ grade. Back to three-year-old grade suits with 3kg claimer Kate Fitzgerald on. A win would not surprise.

11. MANTIME had huge hype on him in the early part of his career but hasn’t lived up to it. This could be attributed to a mix of bad luck and running into good horses. Expect a quiet ride from William Pike, after drawing barrier 12, and the gelding should be hitting the line strongly.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 4-3-1-11

SUGGESTED BET: 4. Karlakee Miss – WIN

Race 4 - 1:53PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1600 METRES) – FULL FIELD

4. WOODSVILLE has been running so honestly without winning, this preparation. He should be hard fit and, if it turns into a last horse standing affair, he will be the one punching away to the line. Brad Parnham stays on and won’t let Gloryland out of his sights.

9. GLORYLAND is a great each-way play but it depends on what kind of order he gets to the mounting yard in. If all is well, he can run them along at fast sectionals and will be hard to catch. He is also very effective on rain-affected ground.

1. STOCKS is fourth up after a couple of nice efforts behind Just Act Natural and War God. Not only does getting out to 1600m suit, but the softer track will definitely be up his alley. He should be near peak fitness now and he can run well at handy odds.

11. LUKE'S GOLD proved his worth in benchmark 72+ grade last start when rocketing home from last to narrowly miss War God. He carries the same weight in equal grade and meets arguably inferior opposition. Out to 1600m is no concern. Right in this.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 4-9-1-11

SUGGESTED BET: 9. Gloryland – PLACE

Race 5 - 2:28PM LAVAZZA HANDICAP (1000 METRES) – FULL FIELD

12. DIAMOND PRINCESS is a fast filly which has drawn nicely in barrier three for trainer Simon Foster and jockey Lucy Warwick. This is a moderate field of older horses and the filly had excuses last start after being caught three-wide and pulling up with soreness in both hind legs. She will be at a nice price so is probably the value of the race.

1. FORBIDDEN PLANET put in a nice enough effort last start behind Cherie Amour up the straight at Pinjarra but the runner-up effort before that behind Yeah Dardy was very good. In what is a moderate race, he can run well here.

7. VANDEMONIAN found bother at the jump last start when slow away by two lengths before flashing home from the tail of the field to finish one length off Two Silver Trees. Improvement is expected.

6. MASSACHUSETTS has had a freshen up since running second behind Forbidden Planet back on Sunday 7 May. A cold ride will see her finishing off well.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 12-1-7-6

SUGGESTED BET: 12. Diamond Princess – EACH WAY

Race 6 - 3:05PM PERTH RACING TWITTER HANDICAP (1200 METRES) – FULL FIELD

1. GIGANTE was just ok last start over the unsuitable trip of 1000m. Back out to 1200m is ideal after running within three lengths of Rock Magic at weight-for-age level in the Group Three Roma Cup (also 1200m) two starts ago. If the six-year-old can emulate that effort in this race, he will be hard to beat.

9. SHOWY CHLOE is third up and should be primed to run well. The first two runs were sound when beaten under three lengths on each occasion by Woolibar and Majinika respectively. The soft barrier of four will help jockey Shaun McGruddy to navigate through the field and feature in the finish.

6. METEOROID will go to the front of the field and be right near the speed from barrier 10. Her effort was tough last start when battling up the straight for second with Majinika. She should appreciate the softer footing also.

10. SPECIAL DELIVERY never got into the race last start after settling at the rear of the field. He pulled up without any abnormalities but just seemed to be run off of his legs with the genuine pace set up front. Forgive that run and expect an improved performance.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 1-9-6-10

SUGGESTED BET: 1. Gigante – EACH WAY

Race 7 - 3:45PM WAROA-BELMONT GUINEAS (1600 METRES) – FULL FIELD

6. WESTERN TEMPLE will have the task ahead of him to beat the heavily fancied favourite Variation but the positive is that he will have a head start on the reigning WA Guineas winner. From barrier three, William Pike should be right behind the leader, which may be Blackline, and will hit the front early in the straight. Whether he can hold on, we’ll find out. There was a lot to like about his gritty run against the older horses last start.

7. RICH RED will start as one of the rank outsiders but has had genuine excuses at his last three start after running an honourable race in open age grade behind the in-form Tonkatuff. Rich Red gets the services of Craig Staples who won the Belmont Guineas last year on Great Shot from same barrier that Rich Red has (barrier two). He is one which could run a cheeky and improved race at big odds along the inside.

2. GATTING is all class. We saw that earlier in the year when he won the Melvista and WATC Derby. He is second up here after running a modest race over the unsuitable 1200m trip first up. Apprentice Fred W Kersley got caught three-wide on him so that performance was inconclusive when analysing. Frenchman Matthieu Autier returns from a break and reacquaints himself with a gelding he knows so well. He will be close enough in running and should be hitting the line.

1. VARIATION is the best horse in the race without question. The reigning WA Guineas winner is yet to put a foot wrong in his career to date, having missed the top three only once, which was last start in the Group Three Belmont Sprint (1400 metres) under weight-for-age conditions against the older horses. The concern comes in the form of barrier 12. Brad Parnham could push forward, sit outside of the leader (likely Blackline) and put the race beyond doubt or snag back to last and ask the quality gelding to round up the whole field, which may be too big of an ask. If he rides for luck and tries to slot in, he could get caught three-wide and be trapped on a limb. Bad luck would be the only thing to beat him.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 6-7-2-1

SUGGESTED BET: 6. Western Temple – EACH WAY

Race 8 - 4:25PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (2000 METRES) – FULL FIELD

5. CAPPO D'ORO has run second at his last four starts, twice behind Couleur Bizarre and twice behind Rosewood Hill. Those gallopers now have strong 78+ form lines and, thankfully for connections of Cappo D’Oro, aren’t in this race. This is a very winnable race.

1. BERGIO has proved that he can run a solid 2000m after running third behind the freakish Rosewood Hill and second behind the then in-form Push To Pass. The lugging bit goes on which should help him race a bit more tractably and Pike in the saddle will help nullify the top weight of 59kg.

9. JETOOMY is on the quick seven-day back-up but Justin Warwick’s gallopers are always hard fit and ready to race. Out to 2000m with an ice cold ride will suit the son of Reset.

6. CARALABEK had an easy trial recently since running well in April over 1600m. 2000m here suits the staying son of Hala Bek.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 5-1-9-6

SUGGESTED BET: 5. Cappo D’Oro – WIN
