6. MASSAGI
TABtouch opening price: $7.50
Massagi wasn’t afforded the best run in transit last week behind Akheron.
Brad Parnham went back in the field for cover but the filly failed to let down in the straight after a muddling tempo throughout the race.
Massagi faces off with Akheron once again but this time Massagi draws more favourably and should settle in the top three in running which will give the well-bred filly every chance in the run.
Being a half-sister to WATC Derby winner Gatting suggests that getting out to 1400m should also suit.

4. CULVERIN
TABtouch opening price: $9
Sixth up into the preparation should mean that the mare will be rock hard fit heading into the 2150m assignment.
The four-year-old mare has been racing well enough to suggest that there is a win in her this preparation and, with in-form 2kg claimer Randy Tan in the saddle, today could be the day.
Useless trivia: Culverin’s dam La Sirenuse won the Group Three Carlyon Cup at Caulfield in 2004 and in doing so beat the legendary Makybe Diva. The champion three-time Melbourne Cup winner also happens to be the three-quarter brother to Musket, Culverin’s sire.
In what was a solidly run 2200m graduation 62+ affair, there was culverin plugging away for fifth (green and yellow silks):
Race 8 - 5:00PM WA BOOKMAKERS ASSOCIATION HANDICAP (1600 METRES) – FULL FIELD
3. BACK TO A WALK
TABtouch opening price: $26
It’s always hard to recommend a horse that hasn’t won for 774 days but this will be the first time Back To A Walk has raced in Wednesday grade since his first ever race start, which was back in March 2013.
As he is third up, it is worth noting that he has run well previously when third up behind black type winners Platinum Rocker (in the Group Three Asian Beau Stakes), Proceedwithcaution and First Among Equals.
The drop in class is the key factor as he was only four and five lengths behind Majinika and Key To Fame respectively, form lines which are highly attractive when considering a race of this standard.
The son of Artie Schiller will need to turn his form around but the easier opposition could see him run well at a big price.
Watch his first up run when the seven-year-old ground away to the line behind Majinika (red with yellow sleeves):
