Key Runners: Ascot - Wednesday 10 May

Expected weather: Partly cloudy 22°C

Expected track rating: GOOD4

Rail position: 15m with cutaway in striaght

Race 1 - 12:46PM GET THE TABTOUCH PLATE (1400 METRES) – FULL FIELD

6. MASSAGI wasn’t suited to the cold ride last week when Akheron had his own way out in front dictating. Expect William Pike to be a lot more positive from barrier three and the well-related filly should enjoy stretching out to 1400m.

1. AKHERON was wonderfully rated out in front by Peter Knuckey last week when beating Massagi. The Fastnet Rock colt is likely to run along and either lead or sit outside of Massagi or Love Always. He will have improved immensely from last week’s win.

2. ROGANELLA loomed on the turn last start and looked as though he would go straight past the leading trio but he was made to fight it out down the straight with Art Series which won on that occasion and has won again since. The form has held up nicely but the widest barrier of seven is the concern.

4. THE TOTE CRUSHER is a first starter by Blackfriars and has hit the line very impressively in each of her three 1000m trials to date. First up over 1400m will be ideal for a filly which will be suited later over further.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 6-1-2-4

SUGGESTED BET: 6. Massagi – PLACE

Race 2 - 1:21PM CITY OF BELMONT COMMUNITY DAY - 13 MAY HANDICAP (1000 METRES) – FULL FIELD

4. KICK IT TO ME trialled brilliantly well recently over 1000m clocking 60.58 which was the third fastest 1000m time of the morning behind dual black type winner Caipirinha and up and coming juvenile Fabergino, both of which have since won. The turn of foot he showed will win him plenty of races.

2. KARLAKEE MISS was very good last start in a Saturday three-year-old race when just grabbed late by Top Of The Class. Down in grade here suits and Clint Johnston-Porter should be able to control the race from the front.

5. KING OF CHAOS was forced to sit outside of the leader and eventual winner last start at Narrogin which didn’t seem to suit the son of Saxon. He should be better to the line here with a cold ride.

3. DIA DE LA RAZA won well last start at Pinjarra over 1200m in maiden grade. Randy Tan takes the ride and 2kg off which is handy as the young apprentice is in great form.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 4-2-5-3

SUGGESTED BET: 4. Kick It To Me – WIN

Race 3 - 1:57PM TABTOUCH RACE REPLAYS HANDICAP (1000 METRES) – FULL FIELD

1. LOCKROY returns after a disappointing first preparation in Western Australia. However, the recent trial win suggests that he has a few wins in him this preparation after being asked to do little by Peter Knuckey in the recent jump-out. He still ran a sharp time of 60.65 in the 1000m heat at Belmont.

2. DISCO METAL’s three wins have all come when first up but the mare has never run in race conditions over 1000m which is the concern here. Whether she will be sharp enough or not is the question. Now in the care of Trevor Andrews, the recent trial was sound enough behind Lockroy but will need to be at her best to get past him.

5. RADIANT GIRL got a bit keen in running last start when beaten 3½ lengths by Black Grape. She loomed along the inside but the daughter of Tickets felt the pinch late after not settling in the run. Back to 1000m may see Steven Parnham settle the mare in a more prominent position and allow her to roll which could suit.

3. BREGENZ has won his last two race starts at Narrogin in inferior class but he will be near the speed and put himself in the race. Maria Hunter wouldn’t bring this galloper all the way from Albany for nothing…

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 1-2-5-3

SUGGESTED BET: 1. Lockroy – WIN

Race 4 - 2:34PM THE GATE BAR & BISTRO MAIDEN (1600 METRES) – FULL FIELD

8. QUEEN BEY found the line nicely on debut behind Shouhou and looked a typical Blackfriars which just wanted more ground. Out to 1600m here looks ideal. Potentially a Belmont Oaks contender?

2. ELSA'S TRIBE loomed into the race from midfield and made her run with eventual winner Time To Hunt, which has since come out and won in town and beat the smart Reveille which has also won since in Saturday class, so form is solid.

12. ROSIE RED DRESS is a first starter and the second of Paige Kenney’s runners. First up over 1600m is likely to suit another daughter of Blackfriars. Others in the race may have the fitness edge but Pike takes the ride and should get every possible chance from barrier two.

6. SHADOW BOXER is another product of Blackfriars in the race with some claims. He has had two hard hit-outs over 1450m leading into this and should be fit for his debut. This is around the time of the year where Justin Warwick’s team begins to fire.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 8-2-12-6

SUGGESTED BET: 10. Queen Bey – WIN

Race 5 - 3:10PM INGLIS INSURANCE BROKERS MAIDEN (1200 METRES) – FULL FIELD

11. SHOW HONEY looks the best bet of the day after being competitive last preparation in black type races. Her recent trial at Lark Hill suggested that she has improved out of sight over her break. This maiden should be a stepping stone on her way to much bigger and better things.

10. THE BUNYAH POEM always runs an honest race. Brad Parnham will have her in a handy position from the inside barrier and can use the cutaway in the straight to let the mare down.

9. DIXIE WIN comes into the maiden after a break without a trial. She is only lightly-raced for a five-year-old but seems to have ability and at least a maiden win in her. Her form from last preparation behind Very Tempting, Reef Keeper and Zefiro sees her in the running to go close.

6. ENZO'S BEST is a half-brother to Group One winner Sheidel by Testa Rossa. His recent trials have only been plain but have to spec on breeding.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 11-10-9-6

SUGGESTED BET: 11. Show Honey – WIN

Race 6 - 3:50PM PERTH RACING TWITTER HANDICAP (1400 METRES) – FULL FIELD

5. KIMBO'S GIRL will race once again with blinkers on and that piece of gear should be enough to help her lead all of the way. There are no Geiger Gems or Mega Minxes in the race and she should get the lead easily from barrier three.

1. EVERASREADY won impressively last start at Pinjarra which was his first West Australian start since coming over from South Australia. It was only a maiden but he came from last and showed good racing qualities. Pike stays on and Michael Lane’s team is humming.

10. GRINDING HARD has a win in her this preparation but runs into a couple of hot ones here. Her effort last start behind Celtic Wizard was good and her run first up behind Salty at Bunbury was also very good. The draw is awkward but she can certainly run into prize money.

4. GLEN ALBYN is always thereabouts and beat Grinding Hard home three starts ago. He will get a lovely run from the good barrier and is one to include in exotics.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 5-1-10-4

SUGGESTED BET: 5. Kimbo’s Girl – WIN

Race 7 - 4:25PM D'ORSOGNA ITALIAN RACEDAY AT ASCOT - 20 MAY HCP (2150 METRES) – FULL FIELD

4. CULVERIN is sixth up this preparation and will be very fit coming into the race. Randy Tan is riding in very good form and his 2kg claim will be all important to ensure the mare gets every possible chance. One of the better each-way plays on the card.

2. ROSEWOOD HILL is a mare in great form. Another in-form apprentice goes on in Aaron Mitchell and he will give the Ben Pearce-trained mare every possible chance from the inside draw. Winkers on first time could be the difference.

1. DANCE MASTER has to carry 60kg but that is nullified by having the best jockey in the state on (William Pike). Fourth up, he will get the rails run and peel off in the straight to challenge. Don’t be surprised to see Pike take off early before the bend if he has clear running.

6. MISS MEIKA has been a bit of a tease throughout her career but out to 2150m is the key to seeing her best. Jason Whiting is one of the best staying jockeys in the state and will get the best out of her.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 4-2-1-6

SUGGESTED BET: 4. Culverin – EACH WAY

Race 8 - 5:00PM WA BOOKMAKERS ASSOCIATION HANDICAP (1600 METRES) – FULL FIELD

3. BACK TO A WALK will race in Wednesday company for the second time in his four-year racing career. The last time he raced in Wednesday grade was on debut all the way back in March 2013. His two runs this preparation haven’t been disgraceful when going down four and five lengths to Majinika and Key To Fame respectively. This is a big drop in class and previous third up runs have been good behind First Among Equals, Proceedwithcaution and Platinum Rocker.

7. GEIGER GEM won nicely last start against his own three-year-old age group. This is a big test against the older horses but his recent runs suggest that he is up to it. Peter Hall retains the ride which is always a good indication that the horse is going well.

8. BOMBER BAY steps out to 1600m for the first time this preparation which may be what he is looking for to find the line. Don’t be surprised to see a positive ride from Chloe Pearce.

9. VICTORIOUS LAD had excuses last start when was hampered along the inside and brushed the running rail. Hopefully a bit of luck should see him get clear running to the line.

SUGGESTED SELECTIONS: 3-7-8-9

SUGGESTED BET: 3. Back To A Walk – EACH WAY
