As the cooler weather arrives Perth Racing kicks off the 2017 Autumn Ascot Racing Carnival. The Autumn Carnival commences Saturday 1 April with the Group 2 $500,000 Amelia Park-Karrakatta Plate and continues on Saturday 8 April with the Schweppes WATC Derby Day.
Day one of the Autumn Carnival features the highly anticipated men’s and women’s Fashions on the Field Competition, where Perth’s race-going fashionistas compete for up to $20,000 in prizes. This free, general public event, located trackside, is sure to delight patrons on course who can make the most of quality racing, great food and the mild autumn weather.
This year’s Fashions on the Field will feature autumn styles and local designs, and while pre-registration is encouraged, there’s always a spot for last-minute entry on the day. For a fresh twist on raceday millinery, ladies can make their own flower crowns for a small fee, while gents can pick up a flower button hole to spruce up their outfit. With live entertainment, pop-up bars, great food and racing on course it’s all about Autumn Good Times.

For those looking for tips in the horse racing form, Simon Miller and Grant Williams trained the winners of last year's Amelia Park-Karrakatta Plate and Kirin Megumi-WA Oaks respectively; with the odds favouring them do it again on the first day of this year's Autumn Carnival. Miller conditions Amelia Park-Karrakatta Plate favourite Seannie. While Williams now in a training partnership with his wife, Alana, prepares Kirin Megumi-WA Oaks hottie Royal Star.
