Likely to be the biggest horse in the mounting yard on raceday, Mr African has been racing very well this preparation without putting a major on the board.
As mentioned the six-year-old is a massive thoroughbred and only has to carry 53.5kg with thanks to apprentice Tayla Stone’s 3kg claim.
The son of Mutawaajid has been running on strongly in his recent races but hopefully Stone rides him positively near the speed so he can bully the field.
He comes into the race fresh and is a great each-way proposition.

3. RAGAZZO D’ORO

On the quick one-week backup after contesting the Listed Challenge Stakes (1500m), Ragazzo D’Oro needed the run desperately when box-seating in the three-year-old affair.
Fitness-wise, he should be ready to show his best and get every possible chance from barrier two.
Like the rest of the geldings in the race, he will be heading towards the WATC Derby and this is his and Patrick Carbery’s chance to show that he is a genuine contender.
His best is very good, which we saw back in November 2016 in the Group Two WA Guineas when he ran third: Race Replay

10. STORM DANCER

This three-year-old doesn’t have the runs on the board like some of his rivals here but don’t discard his most recent effort when fourth behind Dainty Tess.
The son of Musket was buffeted on turning by Miss Lawrance, on that occasion, and became involved in a bumping duel all the way down the straight.
With clearer running, he should have finished at least a length or two closer.
The John Lugg-trained galloper has freshened him up since then and he has drawn very handily in barrier three which should see him sit just off the speed horses More Aces, Bounce Down, Stellar Ignition and Vital Asset.
