Three to Watch: Ascot - Wednesday 18 January

Race 1 - 1:17PM SCHWEPPES MAIDEN (1200 METRES) – FULL FIELD

12. SHE BANGS THE DRUM

She Bangs The Drum is a speedy filly by America-bred stallion Pluck.

The three-year-old is having her first race start after a good trial on Monday 9 January at Belmont Park.

She ultimately ran second in that trial but jumped well and sat outside of the leader which was Latakia Friars.

Latakia Friars was too good for her on that occasion and looked to have a bit more left up her sleeve but She Bangs The Drum was ridden along by Chris Parnham and looked to have improvement to come.

Parnham stays on for raceday, which can only be a positive, and will likely jump and let her settle near the lead.

She’s opened at $11 with TABtouch which is a good each-way price in a very open maiden.

Race 4 - 3:10PM COUNTRY INTERSTATE & INTERNATIONAL MEMBERSHIP HC (2200 METRES) – FULL FIELD

2. PROCLAMATION

Formerly trained in Victoria by Greg Eurell, Proclamation is having his third start in Western Australia for Hopeland-based trainer Brad Graham.

The son of High Chaparral has had early betting support after opening up at $20 with TABtouch.

You only need to look at his record over 2200m to see that the $20 offered was the wrong price.

The gelding has had four goes over 2200m for one win and three seconds.

Expect an improved performance third up after a luckless performance last start when he was slow into stride.

Race 5 - 3:45PM SUMMER RACING - $5 EARLYBIRD TICKETS HANDICAP (1200 METRES) – FULL FIELD

9. GOOD MORNING

Good Morning ran a fast-finishing second last start in a class five at Narrogin.

You might screw up your face and say, “Hmmmm, Narrogin,” but hear us out.

For starters, he has opened up at double figure odds for this race.

Secondly, after being restrained back to last in that recent run at Narrogin, he was keen in the run and had to come the widest on the turn yet still put in a blistering burst down the middle of the track to run a brilliant late sectional.

Senior rider Shaun O’Donnell takes the ride from apprentice Fred W Kersley and is likely to drop him out to the second half of the field again to allow him to finish off.

He looms as a great each-way chance.
